I've got a friend with a '74 2.0 and his fuel pump just died. He happens to have a spare '75-'76 fuel pump. Anyone see a problem with plumbing in the late model fuel pump (in the early location on the engine firewall). He would just hook up the suction to the line from the tank, the pressure side to the engine, and then remove the 'T' in the return line from the engine and plumb it directly back to the tank. Seems to me like it should work fine. I'm not sure why the early pumps had a return line anyway (except to filter more fuel).

Thanks

I had an early style pump that I needed to replace on my 73 & I substituted a late model style pump just as you described. It worked great.
