So my inlaws have been staying with us for the holidays. Some of my friends at work cringed when I told them they'd be here for a month, but let me tell you this has been a very nice visit. For instance, today I gave my father-in-law the combination for the garage and when I came home from work tonight and looked in the garage, there's the roller with a bunch of body work done on it (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif)

Not to mention last week we replaced the brake master cylinder and stripped and POR'd the whole floor pan after doing to minor rust repair. The truly remarkable part of this is that he speaks only Spanish and I speak only a little. I think we've discovered more hand waving ways to communicate than ever.

Another benefit: Mother-in-law cooks some damn good meals.

I'm also one of the lucky ones. It's been almost 34 years and my in-laws have been closer to me than my parents ever were. My father-in-law has been a mechanic so he's helped with lots of advice over the years. Perhaps more important than his actual help is that he has put up with at least 2 VW Bus engine overhauls, a couple of 914 engine R&Rs and more brake jobs than I can remember, on his back porch or in his carport. He's an incredible guy.

Nope, she doesn't have any sisters... Sorry.

I'll try to get a picture soon.

I think its funny how I wear safety goggles, a respirator and earmuffs when I'm using the grinder, then he gets in there, smoking a cigarrette and only his reading glasses to protect his eyes. Or when he welds without a mask. I really don't like that actually... I don't want him to develop cataracts down the road.

Maybe he is trying to tell you something about what is going to happen if you treat his daughter badly......

Since your pappa is such a great guy. Maybe take a small class on spanish or ask the Mrs to teach you. The next time he comes surprise him, with the new language skills. Even if you screw up he will appreciate your effort. That would be a nice gesture for certain. You are one lucky fella.

Damn that's too cool.
My mother in law gave me her daughter.... I have been trying to give her back for 20 years (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/lol2.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/lol2.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/lol2.gif)

Should have known something was up when she started doing this "happy dance" thing when we told her we were getting married.

You live in California and dont speak any spanish? It could be worse, my in laws only speak Russian. Spanish you can fake, Russian is impossible to learn once you are an adult. I gave up.
