just got a new oil filler cap seal, o-ring and cork gasket from the local vw shop guy, so that's hopefully not what's going on.

thanks for the info rockaria. it's 30 degrees in my garage and i'm in no mood to go out there and learn how to do a leakdown test though (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif)

you might be onto something with the injector seals... i seem to remember the replacement seals i got were just a hair too big. i wonder if they're not sealing quite right. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/idea.gif)

When it warms up go to your local FLAPS and buy one of these vacuum pump testers:

They are really cool and easy to use. All you do is hook the tube directly from the little nozzel in the hand pump to the port where the vacuum hose goes to things on your car. Like the dizzy canister advance and retard pots.

Pump the handle a few times to get about 15 psi and watch. If the pump holds 15 psi for a long time the leakdown test was a success. If the vacuum falls, that means the device leaks and needs fixing/replacing.

COOL!

P.S. NO this device would not suck a broken chopstick out of a spark plug hole... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/dry.gif)
