I think it was supposed to come out in 2001. Then 2002. Then 2003. They obviously didn't make 2004... They keep changing the powertrain and other details about it, and the release date keeps getting put off more and more and more.

That's the "Veyron", which last I heard will have over 1000 HP. W-12 or W-16 engine, with turbos.

Still an ugly mother, though.

Kind of looks like a Dodge Intrepid wearing a jock strap. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/screwy.gif)

Check out the watch that was made in its honor. (IMG:http://www.europastar.com/europastar/photos/2004/q4/parm404_3.jpg)

For you non watch geeks (ok, for the rest of you) this is a pretty sweet mechanism that runs the watch

Does it tell time? Or does it have a laser mechanism that incinerates pad locks?

I think I remember reading about that car back in about 2000. They were talking a W16 engine with 4 turbos putting out gobs and gobs of HP and Torque. I think they almost went bankrupt in the final stages of development though and production was put off, I guess until now.

Certainly a unique car....I seem to remember another car that was oft degraded b/c of its looks...

If I remember, if you buy one, they fly you out to Italy to test fit you. They build the car to your physical specs so that it fits you like a glove...might suck to buy one second hand...

In 2003 I was at Laguna Seca Raceway for the Monterey Historic Races and one of these monsters was there. It was used as the pace car for the all Bugatti (as in very old like 1920's-30's) race. Well the driver took off before the race by himself at one hellva rate of speed. We were in the stands at the start/finish point so saw him go. Well he floored it out of the pits onto the track and then we heard a loud squeal of tires and saw a large plume of dust go up in the air at turn 1 (could not see the turn from our seats) and knew immediately what he did. He lost it into the very first turn. Nothing said over the PA system but a few minutes later he was back on the track and when he again went by us that car was excellerating like a dragster with the sweetest exhaust sound you have every heard. Later we heard that he went into the turn with way too much steam but he saved the car, did not hit anything. Needless to say the Bugatti VIP's were a bit po'd at him. That prototype had 1000 hp. It was a sight to behold. One of those track experiences you had to be there to get the full effect. When we saw the dust (looked like a bomb had gone off) the only thing we said was "Holy s___, he wrecked the million dollar prototype". He must of had brown pants when he came into the pits!

Hopefully the watch works better than the car. I hope they get it figured out, they have had issues with every aspect of the car (aero, transmissions, 4wd system, engine, you name it). Makes you long for the old 3.5L V12 w/ 4 turbos the last Bugatti had, that was a sweet ride and I never heard anything about those breaking?

Now, the 30s-vintage Bugatti racers, those are cars!! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif)

yeah, this car was supposed to come out three years ago...and its been delayed the whole time. the original concept was a W-18, but for the production version they made the W-16 (2 vw W-8 engines put together) and it has four turbos, making 1001 bhp to be precise. its proposed top speed was supposed to be 240 mph, the whole point of making this car was to make it beat the Mclaren F-1 for top speed of a road car...but it was highly unstable at top speeds so this past year it was delayed again for more developing on that issue, i think theyre just going to limit its speed...which sucks..

but yeah, what a gorgeous car, no such thing as an ugly bugatti...

John,
Great shots of the car in the pit lane at Laguna. In the top picture I was sitting in the top row of the grand stand shown. Remember it like yesterday (can't remember 5 minutes ago tho, short term is going quickly!). The driver put the pedal to the metal when he exited turn 11 up the straight away on his demo lap, man was it fast, tremendous power. Just beautiful. Fastest street car I have ever seen.

The Veyron looks like the love child of an Edsel and a vacuum cleaner. Kinda ugly.

I love the EB110 though.
