Hey Everyone,
Found out that for wheel to wheel racing the roof latches are not allowed. Does anyone have any good ideas here. Also seen some targas tops have been "vented". My window are gone and it would make sense to let the air out. All help is appreciated. Thanks

We retain the front latches and use thin stainless bent plates to replace the rear latches.
Its on my list of things to offer as a product soon.
We have a CAD file for them already.

Sounds good to me. Whatever you engineer will be better then I can do i'm sure. Any idea when you can make them up and will it clear my roll cage?

Not that hard to make... but we have the dimensions already figured out. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Send me an email and I'll reply with pricing.
I'm sure we can have a pair ready to ship in a couple days.

Hi
I took a different approach with a fiberglass hardtop. Welded three perches to roof line in rear and four on roll cage in front. Dzus fasteners to fiberglass roof. Added a LED third brake light in center perch. Space lets air flow out very nicely from cockpit and LED light is hard to miss for cars behind me.. Attached Image Attached ImageAttached Image

fasteners can be purchased with the small mount tabs
the tabs can be welded directly onto the roll bar and save the extra weight of building new mounts....

we put fasteners through the roof panel
5 I believe

Brant,
Did you just grind out the extra material over the targa bar?

I was thinking about grinding my roof like this too. I want to let the air out, but do you get any engine fumes in?

Thanks Mark
I had a lot of fun building it and running it for the last 3-4 years. Some powertrain problems the first year had to be overcome. It is a 2 liter with original 194/6 block and heads .
The center roof mount doubles as an ultra bright LED brake light. and the top lets the air out of the cockpit nicely.
A snapshot of my workshop at this very moment would show the 1970 911 Targa in the exact place that picture was taken 4 years ago. I just installed the engine in that car today and hope to have it ready for this spring.. An outlaw car to my liking for street use not strictly a track car like the 914/6.

The rear window is flat so it was easy to just use a piece of lexan cut to shape and drill holes for the roll bar rear stays to go through.
Shop is nothing fancy, everything I need ( not much ) and nothing I don't need.
a sneak peek of this winters project...1970 Targa..MFI short stroke 2.5 liter..custom everything to suit my taste at the present....lots of work left but it is coming along

FWIW I have a Rennspeed (I think) fiberglass skin lid which is mounted via dzus fasteners (no factory latches) in roughly the spots where the original latches go. The rear brackets are crude but along the lines of the Tangerine ones shown.

I recently lifted the back edge slightly higher to reduce squeaking and add a little more airflow thru the cabin.

In hindsight this setup doesn't save that much weight vs. a significant amount of custom fabrication, but #becauseracecar ... I can snap a few updated pics if helpful.
