There would be 40 if I didn't have that wedding to go to the same weekend. And after my car being in the shop since last October, I finally just got it running well to take it. :/

For those of you that know about Tim's custom light gauges, he has just finished the set that will be a prize for Okteenerfest. If i an not mistaken it looks like he did a complete restore on these and they are amazing!

I know Tim has improved the wiring set up and produces some quality product. Beside these things being completely restored, they also have the programmable lights that have shift point indicators and redline indicator. These were a highly sought after prize last year. At heck of a value at the price of the attendance fee!

Thanks Tim! M (IMG:style_emoticons/default/pray.gif)

Yes, the gauges all went through my restoration process. The gauge cans and bezels were vaporblasted then repainted, along with the gauge needles. The 3 plastic lenses were removed and replaced with new glass lenses. The speedo was also repaired and re-lubed.
A super special thanks to Mike Blizzard ( (IMG:style_emoticons/default/pray.gif) ), because of him, all new generation gauges comes with a custom built wiring harness which is connectorized, to help ease the installation process

As a service, I typically charge around 300 to retrofit gauges with LED's which comes with my very custom programmable controller that can change colors at different RPM thresholds, and a warning indicator when you're low on fuel. To do a full restoration on gauges, I charge an extra 100-200 dollars depending on the existing condition of your gauges. All and all, this is over a 500 dollar value, not including the price of the gauges themselves! No core is needed from the winner.
From the sounds of it, this will be the 914 event to be at this year!

Hi all
I wanted to address the questin regarding paypal vs. sending a check that we get every so often. I did this long ago, but it's buried in some post way back 11 pages or so ago, so I thought I would repost.

There are a few reasons we chose not to take paypal:
1) paypal fees. I've put together a very tight budget on this event and we're trying to keep costs as low as possible. Even the paypal 3% charge is a lot (figure at 50 people x $75 x 3% is $112.50 lost to fees). I didn't want to have a 'paypal cost' and a 'mail a check cost'...too complicated and too hard to keep track of.
2) since I am paying most of the bills, the money needs to come to me. I do have a paypal account, but it's attached to my business NaroEscape Motorsports. At this point, I don't really want all the $$ flowing through it because of tax implications.
3) Not as important as 1 and 2, but..... there is a HUGE amount of behind the scenes work that goes on putting this together by me, Steve and Mike. So while sending a check might be inconvenient for some of you individually, it would be much more of a pain for me to keep track of different types of payments when dealing with a lot of people - some sending checks, some paypal, etc. That's just one more thing I really don't have time for. Remember, we all have day jobs so we fit this in when we can...not complaining at all, just trying to minimize the extra work.

So there you have it....I know sending a check can be a bit of a pain - I don't use them much either though many PCA and SCCA events we do still require a check. It just makes it easier for me to keep track of and allows us to keep pricing down as low as possible.

Thank you for understanding!!

Bob, Steve & Mike,

Writing and sending you a check is not a problem at all. Thank you for the tremendous amount of work you have taken on to make the final weekend in September such a great event.

I can't wait to escape the Florida Heat and enjoy those awesome roads in my 914!!

Again thank you for all of your work!!!

I have revised the title a bit for those who do not like to read (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)
It seems that some people think this is an event for only the Can Am 914s. Nothing could be further from the truth!
This event is for ALL 914s - doesn't matter what year, what engine, what condition. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
If your 914 is on jack stands or in a thousand pieces, bring a picture and tell us about it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/welder.gif)
Drive whatever you have (doesn't even have to be a Porsche) and hang out with other 914 nuts.
For the drives, find someone with an empty passenger seat. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grouphug.gif)
All attendees are guaranteed to take home some awesome gifts and prizes. The vendors this year have really stepped up and are offering some fantastic items (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cheer.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/drooley.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif)
So sign up already (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif)

All, I have put quite a bit of work into securing the support of some really great vendors that are well known on 914 World and some that may not be as familiar.

So far we have received pledges of support totaling almost $6,000! A really amazing level of support for the 914. There are some really amazing prizes that will be available for the attendees. Even if your 914 is on jack stands, it will be worth coming to this event to win some prizes to move your build along. I think most of us could find a use for a $500 gift certificate from the Type 4 Store, a set of calipers from PMB, rubber seals from 914 Rubber, hardware from 914 Central, or gift certificates from Pelican Parts?

These are just a few of the possible prizes. I will be adding the details of all of the prizes available over the next few weeks. So please consider registering and attending Okteenerfest because it will be a great time and the SWAG will be awesome!

Clay just got the news that his customized speedometer is done and he will be able to get it in his car in time for Okteenerfest. It’s different… subtle, but different!

I’m not going to ruin it for anybody – you’ll have to see it for yourself. I’m going to try to talk him into putting the audio on his phone so people can hear what prompted him to get it done like that. It is AWESOME! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif)

Audio? What... Does is say "slow down you moron, you're going to get a ticket!" ??

Or, more like "Hey pokey, maybe use the go pedal once in a while, you drive like my grandma"

or better "dude...Betty is running away from you...seriously??"

Nice!

REMEMBER: the hotel block of rooms is only held until August 25, so if you want to stay at the host hotel, get your registration in... Now..if you can't get in, don't worry, there are plenty of hotels very close so not a huge deal...but always better to be in the middle of the action!

OK, so here's a deal: When we hit 50 registrants, we will have a drawing for a FREE 2015 Okteenerfest registration. And another for when we hit 60...

If we hit 70, I'll come up with something really special!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

So tell all your friends to sign up!!

Our goal was 50 cars...can we get there???

^^WOW, Look at that list!!!

Since we are now just over 6 weeks away, I thought I would post up a basic schedule for the weekend, maybe entice some of you that are on the fence to register:

First of all...this entire weekend is BYOB. We did this for a couple reasons: to keep costs down, some of you don't drink and shouldn't fund everyone elses habit, and because we have no idea what everyone who DOES drink enjoys...so...easier for you to all bring your own. We will have plenty of water and soda, just BYO alcohol...

Times TBA

Thursday Evening
- Registration Check In - Social time
snack/munchies provided, a chance to say hi, meet your fellow teeners, check out some cars, etc.
- you are on your own for dinner. I've created a map and list of all restaurants in Townsend

Friday
- The Drive See post #215 for the basic route outline
- BBQ Dinner with all the fixin's outside in the 'field' (hotel property) where we can park all the cars, wander around checking out peoples cars, reliving the drive of the day, discussing how slow Clay was driving, etc.

Saturday
- Car show in the AM in the 'field' - Peoples Choice judging
- Swap meet running concurrent to the Show
- Steve has an idea for a special photo op
- Lunch is Free, but we're trying to get a food truck on the premisis for us
- Afternoon is Free. We've put together directions and a list of interesting drives, and visit to Gatlinburg (they have a local craft brew pub!!, shopping, etc)
- Buffet Dinner in the Carriage House restaurant (on hotel property) for awards and the awesome door prizes!!!
- more hanging out and socializing after dinner

Sunday
- time to pack up and head home...or...maybe make a morning run back over the dragon?? or take any of the drives/visits we listed for Saturday and do them Sunday? Your choice.

The focus is on FUN!!! If you haven't been to this area, we have some of the best roads anywhere to drive. Our little cars were made to enjoy to drive, so it's a perfect fit. We'll be seeing some great sights along the way: Fontana Dam, Foothills Parkway, Cherokee (where there is a casino should anyone want to stop and play a little) and Great Smoky Mtn National Park. Plus, we have lots of social, hanging out 'in the parking lot' and just BS'ing time..

What could be better?? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif)

Oh, and if you have one of the Can-Am cars...you NEED to be here!!! That's all I'll say about that at the moment... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Hope to see a lot of you in September!!

Unlike Okteenerfest, most of these guys - if they've even ever seen a 914, it's been a few decades. The gentleman in front of the car kept asking me about selling it. He took a picture "just in case" I decided to. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/drooley.gif)
