QUOTE(STL914 @ Jan 7 2005, 07:48 PM) *

Last lap where he smacked the 911:

I was standing to the right of the guy in the red shirt, near the fence in the foreground. Newman's driving style was clean, determined and always consistantly advancing.
There was another 914/6 that tried to get around Newman for the last third of the race. The other 914 took a waay too early apex entry into turn 2 lefthander, nearly clipping his nose and pressed Newman door to door to the outside and into the stalled 911 at the grass edge. Newman staggered a couple steps after exiting the car as he walked infield, a few yards away from the track. Then checked the damage to the front end.
~
I blame the other driver for dicing into that corner with three other cars, his inexperience and disregard damaged two cars.
Bye the way, it was a beautiful day, sunny. Talked with Hurley Haywood, and Vic Elford, shook hands with Herr Singer when they brought out the blue 917/30.

Still have the poster with everyones' signature.

Interesting about Ann B Davis owing 3 914's because she lived here in Boerne up till about 2013. On occasion in the past 14 years 914's come though town but my 75 is the only one I know still here.

Believe it or not, she actually drove an NA Miata up until a couple of years before she passed. She lived in the Cross Mountain subdivision off Boerne Stage. I met her once a few years back while at work, and she was quite friendly. Its really cool that she was a 914 fan.

I was driving my 914 in Dartmouth, Devon, UK, in November 2013 when a bearded character jumped out into the road in front of me & flagged me down. I think he said that he had 3 914/6s, one of which had been rallied by Bjorne Waldegard. We talked briefly but traffic was stacking up behind me so had to move on. "By the way," he said, "I'm JK from Jamiroquai."

According to this article one of his GT's is the 914/6 that won it's class at the 1970 LeMans

Ok, very excited to add to this thread.

Went to Cars and Coffee here in La Canada this morning. Met Dallas Raines, local ABC7 meteorlogist. He sat in my car! I was too embarrassed to take a pic.

Turns out he's a super cool nice guy and....is building a race 914! He races a BMW 2002 at Willow Springs...showed me a video of him holding off a Ferrari Italia.

He has a black teener with a full cage, V8, 930 trans.....he's got some other cars too it seems.

Fun morning!

So the Lemans winning #40 (Sonauto) piloted to 6th overall and 1st in class June 6, 1970 , by Claude Ballot-Lena / Chasseuil, is still in private ownership in California. JayKay must have another gt that is in the same (but a tribute) livery (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
$300,000 or Euro 300,000 would not budge this car...the owner would not sell it to the museum either !
#40 at MSDS facilities for some Tube work (IMG:style_emoticons/default/welder.gif)

Clearly different cars.

JK car is the Porsche factory GT#57 that raced at the 1971 Monte Carlo but was not actually the winning/finishing car of the 3 entered (#56 1st in class, 3rd overall)(914 143 0140), the 1970 Le Mans class winner was the Sonauto car, a Porsche built customer GT (Mike Hagen, 914 043 1020).

These cars do have an interesting racing history.

I was very skeptical of #40 being in new ownership when I read the Daily Mail.com article by reporter Dan Gennoe. I guess the JK is on him with his erroneous info (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

QUOTE(9146986 @ Jan 6 2005, 09:03 PM) *

Ok there's a extensive Seinfeld thread going right now, so I thought I'd start one about celebrity 914 owners. This is only KNOWN celebrities who are KNOWN to own or have owned a 914. Feel free to chime in, but no speculation here, just the facts ma'am, just the facts. <!-- emo&B) -->(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/cool.gif)<!-- endemo -->

Wouldn't it be cool to track some of these people down, and have thier 914 stories added to my yet to be started, (yet to be totally committed to writing) 914 book???

The few that I know about:

Ann B. Davis from The Brady Bunch

Leif Garrett 70's teen idol

Brian Redmond famous Porsche racer

Peter Gregg ditto above (x2 the racer part)

I too wanted to fine out. But not a lot of info. But, I was listening to Nicky (Motley Crew)six talk show last night and he was telling Jen about a party he was at. I guess he was at one of those parties only rock stars would have as they were all naked and doing drugs. so to make his story short he could not find his cloths and he said he got into his Porsche 914 Naked and was being chased by some girls and wrecked it into a tree. breaking his collarbone and some other injuries.

How about Seinfeld's writer, Spike Feresten, who has the show Car Matchmaker? He has a $150k original British racing green 914-6.

I met a long time Porsche race mechanic here who was very interested in my /6 conversion. He started showing me pictures of cars and drivers on his phone, and he showed me a 935 that he prepped and mentioned that Bruce Jenner was actually a hell of a driver. Very talented.

Not a celebrity, but I was watching the 1st season of Gotham on DVD last night and there was a 914 in one scene.
So someone on that crew loves the 914. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
