Keep at it. I can't wait to see the media blasted results. I would love to get mine blasted some day.

Gonna take pics and actually go out there and video him doing it! This should be interesting! The price was REALLY reasonable for the blast then primer.

He's doing a #6 Glass Bead blast and a zinc rich Preservation Primer. I'll make sure I get all of the details non the specific products used so I can share on here!

Well,I have been slammed stripping the car down getting ready for media blasting and primer! I'm trying to get done stripping everything off so I can take it early next week. Once it has been media blasted and primed, then it will go have the floor pans welded in and the rust repaired before heading to Knoxville for the new engine build!

I was thinking while I have it in this stage, should I go ahead and replace the struts, calipers and rotors? The car hasn't run in 16 years, so I'm sure it needs them. If so, what struts have you guys had good luck with, there's so much money going into everything else, thinking of just doing the KYB (OEM) replacements.

Also, while I'm doing this, should I do the 5 lug conversion?

I have a good set of front Boge I can bing you. So spend the money on some good rears. Pull the calipers and send them to Eric at PMB. No options on the brakes. He is the best. His brakes save my car.

Hey guys, take a look at these pics and tell me if you see a difference? My car came with 2 transmissions. I'm assuming the dirty one was the last in the car...I don't know why it came with the other one, but the case is rough and chipped and corroded and I can't read the number on it.

thats an ambitious goal to be done by july! but getting it blasted and primed will certainly help. If I had mine blasted it would have come back in two 5 gallon buckets haha. 5 lug conversion depends on what wheels you want to use. good luck man (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Trust me, I'm nervous about what it might reveal, but I've poked and prodded a lot so I'm feeling better about it. I really want to do solid black fuch style wheels. If I could find 4 lug wheels that look the way I want, I would just stay with the 4 lugs.

The only thing I think we are missing on the forum is an emoji of a smiley face burning $100 dollar bills, can someone get on that please. Would make for a much quicker daily update to build posts (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I do like the 5 lug Fuchs too. There is so much you can do to these cars to get them to look like you want them too.

I decided to "JUST GET IT RUNNING". Problem with that is I like driving it so much that I stopped doing stuff to it. Everything works, lights, gauges, brakes, parking brake, engine.... tranny is a bit grindy. So now I just drive it. It ain't pretty, but it is fun.

My after market gauges are on a piece of cardboard, wedged under the dash, I have no carpet, no trunk carpet, no radio. Plus side is it gives me time to save up $.

Took an awesome drive to Franklin yesterday. About 20 minutes of good speed. not sure about my interstate speed, the speedo gets stuck at 80. But man it is peppy.

They both look like tail shifters. That would be the style that came with your year car. The PO probably bought a core. I got one for about $125. Tore it apart, practicing for my rebuild. Got a few expensive parts out of it to break even and learned alot.

Some not so good (IMG:style_emoticons/default/WTF.gif) I am glad I opened this tranny up. A new dog tooth is over $150. and there are 5? (IIRC)

I watched Dr Evil's video several times then jumped right in. You should get the video and tear into the spare tranny.

He does all 901 trannies. Tail shifters, side shifters, plus the 914-6 differences and 912 differences. Worth @$25. dr evil DVD post

I bought a few of the required special tools, so if you want to borrow them, I'll be glad to share.

UPDATE: Thanks to a great heat gun I finally got the engine firewall pad off! Also, tried heat, pb blaster and wd40 on the screws at the bottom of the rocker panels , got fed up and went ninja on them and got them off! GREAT NEWS, NO RUST behind the panels!!! Lots of dirt but no rust in the frame or tub!!

Dude, you're the man! No holds barred! Go for it, go punk, go and do it the way YOU want and make all the "experts" look average. I admire your spirit and sense of adventure. When you are young, you don't know any better and that's fu*king COOL!!!!!! Keep it up and post a bunch of pictures.

Excited about pulling the motor this weekend and getting to media blast next week! That being said, I have decided on the paint color I'm gonna go with. I have chosen a Lamborghini paint color called Verde Faunas with all black trim and wheels. Here's what it looks like:
