If I spring for them should I mount them on my Mahles and save what is left of my Goodyears for winter storage or mount them on my spare set of steelies for AX only?

My Goodyears are 195/65's and the odometer is fairly accurate, but I think the speedo has a week spring and the mph already read's about 7% optimistic.

So AX and daily use? Put the goodyears on the steelies for winter storage?

What goodyears?

Eagle GT's.
Very decent and cheap for the street, but not a lot of grip for AX.

my only other concern is the overall affect on gearing.
I am currently able to do all of our courses in 2nd gear - is this change likely to force me to use 3rd on some courses?

Yes you may have to go to third. Not a big deal. I do it all the time. Learn how to heal toe.
