Looks like you guys had a blast. Nice teeners too. I've been wanting to drive some of the old route 66 before it's all gone.

It'll never be all gone. It still runs all the way thru Tulsa. If they closed down 11th street, there would no used car lots here. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif) Sadly, one of the route 66 icons, Frankoma Pottery, closed last month. 66 is still in tact from Joplin Mo., thru Tulsa to Okc. It's Ok 66 now |

Well come on down Gint. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/driving.gif) It's only 12 hours... maybe 10 for you. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) I think Oklahoma has the largest amount of original route 66 remaining. I did a cruise with the local VW gang on about 60 miles of 66 last summer out to Elk City to the rt66 Museum. The museum was okay, but really, the best part is the driving. There are places where the original 12 ft. wide concrete sections remain not far from Tulsa and OKC both. And there are a few places, like the Rock Cafe, you run across that have never been updated or renovated over the years and are living musuems that are pretty intriguing. http://www.rockcaferoute66.com |

Hey Joe - this is pretty cool! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif) "Because of a change in alignment of Route 66 in 1937, there is an intersection where Route 66 crosses itself at Central Avenue and 4th Street in downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico. Here, you can stand on the corner of Route 66 and Route 66." We need a photo of this. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/beer.gif) |

Ooops.
Forgot... this one... Herbie's backside? I'm surprised no one has identified the author of the song I quoted... guess I'm older than Slits. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif) Attached image(s) |
