Hey guys,

The search has been tough to find a very nice scratch & dent free set of the curved sail panel trim pieces for my 2.2L Six car. I bought a couple of sets but neither one meets my standards for the car.

If you have a set or know of someone who has a set, please let me know.

Or, if someone has found a person or process to use to straighten & re-finish original 'cores', then send me that information as well.

Thanks in advance for any info or parts you can supply!

Doug

If you are a PCA member, you usually get a discount. Let them know or ask for it.

I was quoted $168.93 per site + tax (after discount)

That is right. They gave me a 10% Porsche Club of America member discount which made it $168.30

I mistyped earlier (went off memory)

I started a thread on refurbishing mine. Search my name and it will pop up. The metal work took time, but if your careful the dings and twists come out. Now I sent mine in to be painted with chrome at a shop where they had just bought the equipment and product to do it. They've had some learning curve issues and they've re-done them several times to get the right finish. I just got done talking to the owner and he said I should plan on coming by the shop to pick them up on Friday. I'll update the thread with the finished product.

I bent over and sprung for new bright trim (windshield and sail) when I redid my car. No matter how babied, nothing that's been on a car for 40 years will look cherry compared to new parts...

My advice is to bite the bullet and buy from the dealer, but be prepared to send them back if they arrive and they aren't perfect. They will not be cheaper than right now and I've seen them more expensive from Porsche in the past. My problem was getting a right and a left that wasn't scratched or bent when I got them. I sent back so many that everyone I dealt with refused to send out more, but they wouldn't take the time to package them correctly. One set arrived just tossed in a box, with no wrapping at all. They were pretzels when I opened the box.

Had the same issues with windshield trim. Good luck to you and I hope the Porsche warehouse parts shippers are better these days!

I bought a cherry pair from a famous Atlanta vendor on eBay. They had special 914-6 Lineage and were very expensive.

I would not use them, and I wouldn't sell them to you.

I told the vendor they were crap and he did say I could return for credit, but hounded me consistently till I edited my vendor comment on eBay.

In spite of all this I did keep them, partly to remind me when I get silly and think I should buy something there, and partly because I didn't know if I was going to be able to get better.

I finally found new but I had to go to two different vendors to get both sides.

Just picked up my left and right curved sail panel pieces from the dealer. I lucked out. Perfectly straight, no scratches, no dings.

And new left and right door handles as well!
