I found this picture on the worldupholstery website under 'Porsche 356 speedster' but I've never seen it in any of those cars before. I think it's agreat looking seat and I'd like to have it in my 914.

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/agree.gif) snap, and your neck is gone. altough, in a 914 you probably just bust the back of your head on the rear window .... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif) Andy |

Looks nice. If its 356-like, I'm not sure its compatible with a 914 backpad. I think 1 914 requires a more upright seat.

Nah, I like the look of no-headRest, that's what I'm doing with my stock seats that I'm rebuilding with larger bolsters. I sat in them last night and with the shorter seat cushion my head still doesn't sit higher than where the head support used to be. As for the backpad, it'll be reconfigured like Siverson did on his. This could also be done with a set of these "speedster" seats. Mine should look like this picture, but have bigger side bolsters.

funny you say that, the 914/6GT cars had lowback corbeus...as did 550 spyders etc. lots of cars dont have headrests.... besides... if you get hit in a 914 your dead anyway (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif) |

yeah, back in the 60s, you also had doctors telling you on national TV that smoking is good for your health. what is that supposed to proof? because porsche did this in the GT in the early 70s (over 30 years ago) it must be safe ??? who are you kidding? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/confused24.gif) i lost a very good friend during that time (mid 70s) because he broke his neck (in a fiat 127 that didn't have headrests). he had no other injuries whatsoever. headrests are there for your safety. if your life doesn't mean anything to *you* that's perfectly fine with me. but please don't propagate your death-wish on a public forum as some kind of "universal wisdom" ... I guess I somewhat agree about the head restrant but there isn't even a helmet law for motorcyclist these days in my state and I'd never try that. So, knowing the danger I'm still going without. Besides I'm fairly tall, I bet my seat will sit most of the way back and the backpad would come into play in such an event. Either way, I don't want to find out. But yeah, these cars can be dangerous just by their design in general and that's a given.

That's a replica of an original Speedster seat. Carreras and Spyders had aluminum versions of this classic steel seat. They're among the most comfortable seats I've ever used. I had a set in my '53 coupe for a couple of years, and my then wife loved 'em too, especially when she was pregnant with our first son. I can recall NO car of the era with headrests. Aftermarket headrests were around from the early 60s, but they were flimsy crap, good only for looks. First ones I saw were in the very late '60s, and even then weren't much. 911s got them in the early '70s, as I recall. The Cap'n

Although I'm a headrest fan, the existence of a headrest doesn't necessarily guarantee safety. I've seen a few recent shows where many current car seats (VW esp) are inadequate head/neck protection.
The problem I see is that most of the seats I've seen proposed by DougC seem to have lots of layback. This, I think, is counterproductive to generating legroom for the tall fellers. |

That's true and among the variables that I've been contemplating over the past few weeks which is mainly why I'm currently back on to using my stock seats as a base. I will make them stonger than my original plans though. But I wish they could look as cool as those speedster seats do. They'll probably be leather and cheaper than sourcing the replicas though. No need to GB those seats, the company that imports them is supposedly making a 914 version of one of their models called the "LeMans"
