Installing the exhaust tomorrow. I don't have a torch but I do Have a glass top stove. If you did the gasket ring annealing on your stove ok let me know. I don't want the copper gasket to damage the glass top. Thanks.

I'm not sure if you can do it on a glass top. I have a gas stove and it worked fine. I would go to Lowes, Home Depot etc. and buy a cheap propane torch.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) We call those gas grilles. Perhaps the quickest way to tell if your neighbor is an implant. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

Yup, five minutes on a propane grill works just fine. Go bug your neighbor if you don't have one. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

NOT ON GLASS TOP STOVE. It will put a whole in the top, Someone I knew did not center a pan on the top and the missing part opened up a crater. Gordon

Welder friend is hardcore into BBQ, welds up his own pits from 55 gallon drums. He uses Gas for some stuff like Pork loin, and his pit obviously for brisket and sausage, and for smoking.

On topic, I have a dumb question. This is the second time I saw mention of anealing these copper gaskets for the heads/headers. What does the anealing do any why is it done?

To anneal metals like copper or silver or gold one gets the metal red hot and then immediately quenches it into cold water. The quenching is important. If you want to you can build a small fire in the yard - I think you might see some scarring with the stove. The temp you are looking for is a dull but clearly visible red. Cherry red is a warning sign about melting. I think you are in the 1200 degree range, but I go by eye.

The quenching is VERY important. I know it sounds wrong to those of us working with steel, but air cooling is the way silver and gold workers actually harden the metal!

This started as a single sheet of silver and two stones. So I know my non-ferrous. Sorry it came out so huge.

And for the Capn - "Ah squiddy I had nothin against ye! I just heard there was gold in yer belly".

The soft copper deforms to seal. In my experience they are fairly soft out of the package. But annealing makes sure. As long as you don't let them cool too slowly.

Ok. Broke down and got a propane torch. Makes for easy work and now I've got a fire starter for July 4 fireworks too!
