Found this graph today. Maybe it's a common one. If so, click on to the next thread. I found it interesting to study, so maybe some other 914 newbies will too.

Why does the 1.7 put out more power than the 1.8? Why does the early 2.0 put out more power than the later 2.0?

Why does the 1.7 put out more power than the 1.8? Why does the early 2.0 put out more power than the later 2.0? The later 2.0 had smog equipment and a restrictive exhuast. Not sure about the 1.7, maybe it was configured better, or did the 1.8 come out after smog equipment added too. |

I belive the 1.8 was to compensate for smog junk.

Why does the 1.7 put out more power than the 1.8? Because its a crappy low compression motor (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

Why does the 1.7 put out more power than the 1.8? Because its a crappy low compression motor (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I can speak from experience when I say that I doubt my 1.8L has enough power to blow itself up. On the bright side, mine has over 350K on the clock. . . (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) |
