Wait, are you going through the starter lights backwards again? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) Hey, it was only the once!!! (...And the pic is of my wife heading up to the starting line...) I was thinking those might be ground-effect skirts... --DD |

Was this to hide his set up on tires and suspension from the competition? or to keep the sun off his tires? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) |

At The autocross in Maria VIN 4732900123 ( in database) This car looks serious, does anyone know anything about it? Looks like him and Nieslony must have had a show-down. I didn't get out to Marina, but I'm pretty sure that's Mike Koozmin's (koozy) 914. Mike placed second, missed TTOD by .06 to a Cayman. |

The hardest? The one where they had the answer dead-wrong. "All 914s that were destined for the US came with hood badges." The answer key said "true".
Uh, no. Even the reference material they had quoted said otherwise. We got that question thrown out. Another t/f question that I got wrong was, "A 914-6 was the pace car of the 1970 Daytona"... Umm, either 500 or 24 hours, I forget which now. I thought they were being tricky, because I remembered it being a -4, so I said "false". Oops, it was indeed a Six. I don't think I won the overall quiz, though. I don't know for sure, because I couldn't stay for the Victory Banquet where they announce the winners. --DD |

As mentioned earlier in the thread, Steve Lau won the autocross in a Cayman and Mike Koozmin (below) was second in his 914.
Here is a video of the winning run. If you have kids, there is R-rated language as the crowd gathers around to celebrate his victory. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpoqxnS-eZU |

Here are a couple of photos from the Parade of Porsches event at Laguna Seca on Saturday:
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i1278.photobucket.com-15915-1403620480.1.jpg) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i1278.photobucket.com-15915-1403620480.2.jpg) Out of hundreds of Porsches there were only 6 914s represented - 4 sixes and 2 fours. Driving the track for two laps was a blast, particularly the corkscrew (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

Is that Cayman street legal? It looked like he didnt even have side mirrors... Damn fast either way. |

It certainly looked like it could have been back then, but it's been through a huge transformation and is a full on A/X car now. Regarding the Cayman, I read that it's street legal but I know it raced on slicks. |

Dang Mike got serious with his car, wasn't it street legal? You mean since WCR 2012? It certainly looked like it could have been back then, but it's been through a huge transformation and is a full on A/X car now. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/bringatrailer.com-25305-1655307473.1.jpg) This 914 race car was featured in the September 2014, October 2016, and December 2017 issues of Panorama magazine and is now offered with a dual-axle trailer, spare parts, service records from current ownership, and clean California titles for both the car and the trailer. Sorry for bringing such an old thread back from the dead, but I just saw that this car (and its trailer) is for sale over on BaT and couldn't resist. Here are a couple of quotes from the current auction (06/17/22) regarding it being street legal: "The car is not currently street legal and is registered as Planned Non-Operation in the state of California." "The Hoosier racing slicks are technically legal since they have a DOT certification and “tread” (the dots), but from a practical perspective I’d advise putting some other tires on it that would be more suitable for street use. You’d want to re-hookup the turn signals, brake lights, headlights, and windshield." Just in case anyone wants to see more, there are over 200 pictures and at least a couple of videos of this wonderful machine as well as detailed descriptions of the upgrades and history of the car. I'd guess one would find themselves fighting a few tickets over the street legality even the items fixed, but it is a fun car to see and read about. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1973-porsche-914-70/ |
