Hey Guys,

I stopped to make an appointment to get an oil change & tune up on my 914 before the Woodward Cruise the week of Aug. 11th to Aug. 16th. Dave Laing's RUF Automobile Central shop in Southfield, MI (248) 304-9091 was full of $million dollar Porsche's. A 959 Black one, a 959 White one plus a number of RUF's, Plus a FORD Rally car with a 4-cyl engine putting out over 500hp. Heck, everything in the shop was 500-600 hp. or more. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif)
Dave said he will give my 914 a reduced hourly rate because he likes 914's. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) Dave is also a good friend, (IMG:style_emoticons/default/pray.gif)

I took over (80) pictures at his shop and will post a few if anyone is interested?? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/stirthepot.gif) I have motor pics, brake pics, Interior pics.,etc. etc.

Tom

I figured the "500 HP four-cylinder Ford" was one of the Group B Escorts.

I bet the bathtub in the background doesn't make 400 HP. And I'm more interested in it than the 959s... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (Of course, Canepa is in my backyard, just about, and they've got at least a handful of 959s on hand at any given moment.)

Dave,
The 356 is an Intermeccaivica coach built 356 made in Canada. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/pray.gif) They are a dealer and this is a customer car in for a period radio install. These cars are beautiful.
When Dave Laing was showing me the black 959 with all of it's 200+ options I asked does it have a TOOL KIT??? Yes, it does and it's in a hand formed leather case with a personal torque wrench and jack. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) Gotta have one. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif)

More pics later. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/chowtime.gif)

Amazing to remember when the 959's first hit the Planet how amazing they were, and super rare; here we find a pair hanging out in a Southfield shop in 2014! I remember Bob White talking about driving one before they were for sale, and describing the "religious experience" braking was. But yeah, I'm still happy wheeling a 914.

Hey newbie, tomrev, N.Mich.
Great to hear from another Michigander!!!
We have many good Porsche Repair shops in MI (Tim Potts, Chris Branden, Jeff Smith, etc. etc) who all love our 914's. I like Dave Laing at GrandSport/RuF in Southfield, MI because your low end 914 is always inside a cement block high security bldg. and never left outside when the shop is full with high end cars. Dave treats my 914 with the same care as 959's at a discount 914 $$-shop rate. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/first.gif)
More stuff I looked at. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif)

My favorite FORD Rally car (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) with about 500 hp that weighs 2300#'s. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)
When at idle it sounds wicked and angry. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif)
Lots of Ford people have been checking it out.

Thanks Tom! Actually, not so new, but when trying to log on a few months ago, the computer masters would not let me, so I just re-joined. I'v been a 914 guy for 30 years, and raced a six for quite awhile in late 80's-90's. Presently just sold a LS 914, and am finishing up an old-school Chevy 292 powered '75. Great photos!
