In the photo in post 1, it looks like a matchbox car. Or is it just me? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) Watching the pics for the first time i have had the same impression. |

Having one of each, I can tell you that the conversion car is a lot more fun. 200 hp instead of 110, you do the math. Plus, I don't have to be as paranoid when I'm driving it around town!
To do one correctly with all the desirable parts, $50,000 is low end if you are doing the work yourself. It'll be interesting to see what it is bid up to. |

George is correct. Conversion cars car a better car in my opinion. You can take any model, early or late and do what you want. Any thing from a stock -6 to a full on 3.6. There are so many options and combinations it is mind blowing. The sky is the limit.

If it goes for $$$, maybe i should keep the 2.7's CIS system on it when I install and sell the carbs off for $1750 in my pocket.....nah.
Should be interesting. I surely won't have $50k into my conversion when I'm done...unless I put $20k into the engine. And I haven't skimped on parts either. |

IMHO this one is much more interesting; at least it has a real 914-6 VIN. And i must say the price is very attractive too. |

Imho, I think that the add is absolutely misleading. The car has nothing to do with a real 914-6 (which is a very specific description of a car model). Yes, they stated non orginal; however a real 914-6 with after market rims and a 3L engine is also non original. I think it will sell for $45k, because of the "challenging" description. So if I follow your logic, my 3.2 conversion cannot be called a 914-6 because it has "nothing to do with a real 914-6." So help me. What do I call it? Perhaps a 914-4.5? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) All of those things are stated in the ad. As I stated, the initiated know that the original 6 would have a 914 serial#, 14" Fuchs wheels, a 2.0 liter 6 engine, an ignition key on the dashboard to the left of the steering column... The ad clearly states a VIN, states it's a 3.0, states it has 16" refurbished Fuchs, I'm having a problem seeing how this is "absolutely misleading?" I could tell it was a conversion within seconds. Are you looking for the word 'conversion?' Would that make it less misleading for you? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) |

Stock Six Fuchs wheel was a 14" x 5.5". I have a full set on my car, including the spare.

It sold for USD$41,384 (plus 10% premium)....
Could that be a record for a conversion? |

I think that is a record, but was it more than the build cost?

I think that is a record, but was it more than the build cost? The ad states there are $75k in receipts... Non Original Example in Show Condition Built from an Original Blue Plate California 914 3-Liter 911 Engine; Carerra 915 5-Speed Over $75,000 in receipts; 16" Refurbished Fuchs Momo Steering Wheel; Mahle High Compression Pistons |

So, spend $75,000 and sell at $41, 384 for a $33,616 loss ?
I understand that punishing lesson. |
