I need the same thing, but am in the uk. The 1973 Paper 1.7 filter box is a rare thing to find!!!

There's a couple of aftermarket filters that fit inside it, but good luck finding one!! If this does magically find one in Europe think of me!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

finding the box is not nearly as bad as finding the proper filter for it.

The proper filter is a pain yes. But a K&N 1000 fits perfectly with a little foam gasket. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

The K&N E1000 is a darn close fit imo. I know that lots of you won't touch these filters, but it was the best I could find that fits the housing. I used to race Minis and have used these for years so don't have a problem with them, just as long as you keep them oiled they are a great filter.

I don't know how long the old filter had been in there, but it was really clogged up, so the new one has gone in today.

So if anyone wants a new filter then this fits..

it was suggested to me that the Purolator classic

A30052 air filter fits the 1.7

I bought two from the local "advance auto'' next day delivery.

I just put it in my 1.7's "air box" and it fits fine.

there is a little bit of back and forth when I shake it.

will that be a problem? if so why?

thanks

randal

There's nothing wrong with K&N air filters, except if you have an FI system with an MAF. An oil film builds up on the delicate thin sensor wire(s) in the MAF and they're a little tricky to clean.

I switched over to AFE dry filters in the Toyota trucks.

It appears to be a "late" air box, off of a 1.8 or 2.0. I think the one I need is round, not square.
