75 2.0

A stupid question about the side wing window gaskets that the door window rides up into.

Inside the front "rails" there is a felt channel that the front of the door windows slide up on.

On my car, that felt channel doesn't go all the way to the top of the wing window frame. There is like a 1" gap on both top sides.

Is that normal or am I missing a part, or have the guides slipped down?

Seems odd they would be like that.

Thanks,

Len

Mine are that way. Maybe not an inch though but not all the way to the top. Just replaced them with new ones from 914 Rubber. They need to be low enough to install the cap that is held one with the two screws. If you run it up too high, the cap won't fit.

Here's a picture - I guess that's the way it should be then.

Thanks,

Len

That's a little much. They can slide down. Try to pull it up a bit by hand.

I think they shrink over time. I have seen that with other door seals. I doubt you are going to be able to pull it up without removing the window.

Very common to shrink over time. That's why I made new ones. I also have the rear ones too. The ones you don't see, but if you replace the front you can easily to the rear. If your window is a little loose, this will tighten up the tolerance making the window less floppy.

Might want to do both at the same time they are relatively inexpensive.

I do provide them longer so you can cut to fit.

I made the mistake of thinking I could only replace select parts and not follow Mark's guidance. If you go down the replacement road follow Mark's recommendations. I thought I knew better and would save a few bucks. I was wrong!
