I have been watching for the past couple days. The rally looks awesome but OLN's coverage sucks. They talk the whole time and show very little of the actual race.

So Jerry have you seen the same show each of the two days or is it a different leg each day. The TV listing shows Barcelona to Senegal each TV listing??? Please don't let the person doing the talking be Rick Debruhl or is it Rick De Fool.

Yeah...saw that LA has a new team. Hadn't heard that Discovery also got the Tour Television Contract. The last two Tours have been a cash cow and OLN made a bundle....looks like they bid too low.... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/sad.gif)
LA and his Team are here in the SB County training up in the whine country. |

It's a different leg each day, I think they might be showing all of them on the 29th? Not sure. I have it recording on the tivo.
OLN is channel 81 for me. Way up there. |

John You only missed some dufus talking to the the racers and some announcer who was problaly in Malibu watching film and tapeing the commentary.
What a piece of crap. I am just so happy that I subsrcibe to Autoweek so that I know the finish results. Just glad I don't have to watch the OLN broadcast to find out. And please don't tell me that is considered a premium channel?? I miss the Speedchannel announcer and there broadcast. CCLINDAKARRALLY |

Gonna try it tonight. Just got this from POC (our local track club)
Dear POC Member: Enclosed is information regarding the Dakar World Rally through Africa, produced by the POC's own Robert Dalrymple. We thought you might be interested in seeing a sample of his work. See the enclosed for air time listings. Regards, Laurie Taylor The Dakar is the world's toughest and most dangerous race, less than 50% of the 500 racers that started made it to the finish, and tragically there were two motorcycle deaths and numerous injuries. The race is run over two continents including the start in Barcelona, Spain through Morocco, the Sahara dessert of Mauritania, the wild animal kingdom of Mali, and finishing a week ago in Dakar Senegal. Robby Gordon was the first American, in the 27-year history of Dakar, to win a car stage. The last three shows air tonight, Tuesday night, and Wednesday night at 7pm and 10pm Los Angeles time on the Outdoor Life Network (OLN.) |

That's Toby Moody a UK moto-journalist. Speed was imply editing their own content into his reports. I have a friend at the BBC. They film these sporting events all over the world and then re-sell them to channels like SPEED, ESPN, OLN, etc. and those channels cut in their own specific material. Sometimes the channels will have a special microphone or jacket for the presenter to wear in certain shots to give the feeling that they are really there. The strongest man competitions, WRC, Dakar, and others are done this way. Few US stations actually care enough to send a real crew. Toby always does a great job and I really wish we could get his scoop this year. I applaud OLN for taking it on and trying to make it their own but... 1. Too much talk, not enough coverage 2. No "real" race footage with real race sounds... it's all !#$%ing music and voice over!!! 3. Hardly any coverage of Colin McRae and no footage of his race ending crash? 4. Waayy too much interviews of US entries which ironically they hardly even show us racing. No feeling of getting to know the racers, no sense of drama or of even letting the race unfold. It is all very dry, very US specific, and very talky. |
