Nothing looks better than a nice clean black car.
It's a PITA to get it clean and impossible to keep it that way. I own a black 914 and I love / hate it. If silver and black are your only 2 choices, I would pick silver. Why not red or yellow or blue or green, or purple or orange or . . . . . . ? Ya know - something really bright. I do like your ideal for blacked out chrome. I think it looks good on any color car. |

Actually - the chrome trim was scuffed up, so we painted it black with trim paint, and reinstalled it. I kind of wish we had gone with some sort of rubber trim, though. I'm afraid the metal will become chipped pretty easily. Thanks for the compliments - the car hides all of the extra parts piled on the floor behind it. The garage isn't THAT clean. There's a guy here on the board that can put a scheme together for you if you ask nicely. You tell him what wheels and bumpers you have and whether you have flares or not and what color you want everything to be.
This is my plan for later this year (or next....or maybe the year after that...). Attached image(s) |

Black is not hard at all to keep clean if you keep the car garaged as you should when not in use and you don't drive it in the rain.

My next 914 will be silver. It's always been my favorite color on a car. Unfortunately, I have YET to own one. I keep getting 'deals' on colors I really hate. Even though I'm re-painting my 73, I'm going to keep it the yellow that it was.
Next year, I plan on building a Silver 914-6 with ox-blood leather interior. I've always wanted that color combo on a teener. |

Black is definitely the best looking color in photos, but many times they are 10 foot paintjobs. for example: (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif)
