Dumb question, can you remove the rockers without destroying them? My new project seems to have intact rockers but I'm worried about what might be behind them.

Rockers are mounted underneath with three screws. Spray some Kroil or Liquid Wrench on it and let it sit overnight or longer.
Take a really big flathead screwdriver and dry and crank them out without stripping the head. If needed, deepen the head on the screw with a Dremel tool and a cutting bit. Be patient and don't strip the head. There is also a screw on each end and the rivets along the top. You can inspect underneath by just removing the bottom and end screws. Good luck! Welcome to the group, by the way.
No questions are stupid questions, here. Well some people post stupid stuff, but ask away. Search the archives first, but typing in a few search words on the bottom right of the forum screen. (If you can't figure it out, we can walk you through it). Go to www.914world.com/downloads for some useful stuff. You need a high-speed internet connection, though because the files are big. Have fun working on your father-son project. Get yourself a Haines Manual to get started. These cars are simple, with virtually no complicted electronic junk (except for the FI brain). Everything else is mechanical. Take good notes and a digital camera is good for documenting "the way things were" before you broke it. Search the classifieds and e-bay for new and used parts. If you can't find something, post a Wanted Ad. Chances are someone has what you need. Good luck! Oh, yeah... Post a photo of your car. Regards, |
