When replacing the shift linkage bushings make sure you replace the two bushings inside the shift linkage coupling located at the fire wall between the front and rear shift rods. It is held on with tapered set screws. You have to disassemble the coupling by pressing out the pin which rides in these bushings. These bushings can disintegrate with age and the shifting will deteriorate big time. Mine did and I was unable to find all gears. I thought the tranny was gone, but bushing replacement brought it all back. See 24, 25, 26, and 29 below.

Amen to that. They're a PITA, the coupling needs to be supported while pounding out the old ones and installing the new ones but they make a big difference. In fact, they'll probably look/seem fine but it's hard to tell until they're renewed.

Change all of them. Install Chris Foley's firewall bushing. The 901 will never be a Getrag but it will be a night n day difference...

To me, and prolly a couple others, the shifter mechanism and consequently the shifting experience is the most antiquated aspect of these cars. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/stromberg.gif)
