Reman Caliper from Autozone, Anyone have experience? Options

Autozone has a pair of front loaded calipers listed for $83.99 with a $95 core charge. The price is for a pair.

The manufacture listed is Morse.

Anyone bought calipers from Morse or Autozone For $42 each it almost sounds to good to be true.

Also...What does "fully loaded" vs "semi loaded" mean in refference to calipers?


If these are OK it would save me some time on my rebuild.

The fronts are very easy to rebuild and a lot of rebuilders do them. That price is about right for a production rebuilder. I thought Autozone was getting theirs from A1 Cardone.

Loaded = new pads, pad hardware

unloaded = calipers only

Not personally acquainted with Morse, but they should be fine. The core charge blows me away. There are so many of these around, we may get $5.00 - $10.00 each for them from a rebuilder (if they buy them and they haven't in a long time)

it wouldn't be too hard to inspect them, if they look decent I'd use them...

I bought one rear one from Advanced and it leaked from the outside adjuster. I took it apart and found the Oring cut in two. You get what you pay for.

I got one from AZ for the rear of a 911. The pistons where installed 180 degrees off. Also the piston was different then what the car had. Other then the piston being put in wrong the rebuild looked good, it was honed nicely and no problems with the seals. I think I spent around $35 after the core charge.

I went through SIX Cardone rebuilt rear calipers before Brad sent me a good pair of used ones. And Cardone is supposed to be the best. That was for ONE car, and at ONE time. Don't talk to ME about rebuilts ............. The Cap'n

I haven't got a clue about the quality of the rebuild but I will tell you the price is unbelievable. That's basically "parts". The "standard" ATE rebuild kit (which is what you get if you order the rebuild off the shelf from a local shop) only includes piston seals and dust boots. Sounds like that's what they use. Adjuster seals often leak and you should probably split to caliper to get pistons out (but not necessary)

There's a few rePPutable vendors that sell the rear kit with the adjuster and caliper half seals for around $20 + shipping. Factor in new inner adjuster covers for around $3.00 each. Some brake grease at around $5.00. A couple cans of brake cleaner = $6.00

They may not be bead blasted clean or have fancy zinc plating but I'm sure there's a ton of people out there who could care less about that. As an "experiment" it sounds like a no-brainer on the surface. Try them and report back.

I bout a set of Loaded calipers from Autozone for that cheap price only to find that the pads were mis-matched, and were missing the anti rotation clips. I returned them and waited for 4-5 weeks for a replacement set. They finally gave me that set back with a cheap pair of replacement pads. I then bought parts/pads from AA and the Bird and when it was all said and done one of them leaked bad ! Long story short, you get what you pay for and better off dealing with someone who know 914s.
