i recently found out that i have rust at my jack points. it wasn't there before, but it has been sitting in a field for the 2 years. how bad is this, and how bad can this get? there is no other rust on the car. if this is the only place on the car with rust, is it easily repairable ( when i say easy, i mean by a professional)

thanks in advance

usually, that's caused by roaddebris piling up behind the rockers in that area. and the debris is usually wet when it gets there.
take that plus 2 years of sitting and you get rust!
having said that, if that rust didn't come from the inside (through the hell-hole) the long itself should be fine.
the jack-plate can be bought new and replacement is "fairly" straight forward. to do it right, one has to sort of cut into the fender.
a good body shop guy will know what to do.

oh, and next time you plan on storing your car for a while, clean that stuff out with a pressure washer first.
or, even better, pull the rocker panels and clean ...

that's a sigh of relief. if " hell hole" refers to the battery tray area, it's clean. it;s the driver side jack point that has rusted and bent. i found a guy to repair it at $50 an hour, but wanted to make sure i wasn't looking at a bigger problem. cancer scares me. the car isn't running, so before i spend the money on the rebuild, i want to make sure it's money well spent. the car was rust free before it was parked

You should never park a 914 (or any car) in a field, this is what happens after 3 years.....

Depends on the weeds growing around the "project", they might fund the thing! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif)

Rust in the jack posts could mean anything from water sitting in there to, hell coming up from underneath. Take the rocker panels off and look. Never let rust take hold in a 914.

I think it is worth it to have a professional welder do the job correctly. I had a guy come to my house and spent 6 hours fixing rusted out spots, repairing the hell hole, a little on the floor pans and fire wall. It took him 6 hours and it was the best 300 dollars I have spent on the car. If you aint a welder (and I'm not yet) pay the 50 bucks an hour. It's worth it if you're going to keep the car. My few cents worth.
Cheers, Elliot

When I bought that car the only thing holding the two halfs together was the shiftrod and wiring harness. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif)

The old guy cried (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/sad.gif)

I paid $500 for it...my dad thought I was nuts. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/screwy.gif)
