I ran 150# springs last year and loved it. My car was very well balanced and rotated perfectly. With the FOUR.
What symptoms will appear that would indicate it's time to install the 200#'ers? Now running the SIX. KT |

understeer ... take her out and throw her around some corners. find a empty parking lot, do small (20-30 yards dia.) constant size circles, start slow, gradually going faster until the car starts to brake out. if the front goes out first, loosen the front bar or step up the spring rate in the rear. if the rear goes first, tighten the front bar. if both ends go at the same time, don't do anything. btw. do this going in both directions to see how well your corner balance works for you ... half tank of gas, no unneeded weight in the car, just like you would run it at the AX. btw. ideally, the car should be well balanced (both ends of the car go at the same time) when your front bar is about in the middle of the adjustment. that way, you have bar to play with in both directions ... makes sense? I do DE events and don't usually do autocrossing (I did a few times). When I was doing that, I found carbs may not be the best idea for autocrossing..... We just changed to 400# in back with 23mm front torsion bars (from 350# & 21mm) this winter. It will take some dialing in with the front sway bar, but should decrease some of the high speed body roll.... |

Like Andy says, it's all about balance. You don't just change one end of the car for the hell of it. You need to change one end of the car to correct a problem. Or change both ends of the car if you want an overall stiffness change. I'd leave your 150's in and try them out with the /6 before making any changes. Once you figure out how your car handles with the new motor, then start making changes and corrections from there.

Hi Trekkor,
I agree with all the above. Another thing to watch is that the added torque characteristics of the 6 may end up lifting the inside wheel accelerating during or exiting a turn. With our 4 it didn't have enough umph to accerate and lift a wheel. With our 6, we were gettting acceleration wheel lift up to running 250lbs springs in the rear. I looked in the trailer and I have a set of H&R 250lbs, and Eibarch 350's, 400's and 450's. Let me know if you want to borrow them to play with settings. My guess is that with the 31mm smart bar you have, combined with the stock front torsion bars, you won't have to go past 200lbs. Do you have a rear bar? Bill P. |

Thanks, Bill.
I do have the rear bar ( which is great, BTW ). I have a set of 200#'s in the shed just in case. I'll test the car before I make any changes, of course. KT |

Hey Trekkor, if and when you decide to go to stiffer springs let me know and I'll take those #150s off your hands for you (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif)

Hi Patrick,
The 930 is my old car that I sold last year. It was a 1988 Turbo with a close ratio 5 speed conversion and a pumped motor. Dyno'd at 345HP and passed smog... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/lol2.gif) I shouldn't have sold her....but I did....I loved the styling on that car! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wub.gif) Here's a better shot of her.... Bill P. Attached image(s) |
