Does any body know if you can stick two fax Modems on a PC and have it work with the Windows XP fax product included with Windows?
We have two Faxes that are incoming only. I'd like to switch over to the PCs for faxing and forwarding, but I'd like one PC to do both lines. Just wondering? |

Found the answer.
The PC can accept both fax modems, but the program will only utilize one! Darn! I am looking for cheap (i.e. FREE) software that will allow me to utilize two fax modems on one PC and control them via one software interface. Both are incoming only. Thanks. |

my guess - i haven't done this stuff for a while:
if they are "REAL" modems, you have a shot at pulling it off. if they are external modems, they are virtually guaranteed to be 'real' modems. if they are "WINmodems" - i.e. - all the signal processing is actually done by the PC's CPU - i wouldn't bet on it. sometimes hard to tell what's a "WINmodem" and what's not. external - usually not. has Linux drivers - probably not. works with Mac - definitely not :-) |

Yes.. they are real modems. Older U.S. Robotics internal 56K. Luckily I had two identical ones.
Windows shows Fax Modem 1 at Com3 and Fax Modem 2 at Com4. Now to find a good cheap Fax program that can utilize both and allow me to forward (e-mail) to people within the company! Regards, Q-ball! |

6 years ago I setup 2 fax servers for Sealand container freight company and they were only regular PII computers each with 2 fax modems installed. I used Winfax Pro to operate them and it worked all four modems with no problems.

Well if it was a Linux box you could put as many faxmodems in it as it will hold and controll them all selectively via a single software interface, but alas, we all know how you feel about Linux so I guess you're up the proverbial creek. Sorry. -Ben M. ps - it would be FREE. |

I have a couple of Linux servers at the office. They are decent to work with. I run Fedora Core 3 on them.
I just don't want my employees messing with them because they just aren't quite user friendly enough yet... but getting there! I think I have a version of Winfax Pro that I try. |

Set it up in Server mode and connect the workstations to it. The incoming faxes can be viewed from the users workstations. That is how i did it. |

No no no... I'm not trying to get Linux to do it...
I have an XP machine already running. There are TWO incoming only fax machines next to that desk, that i want to route through that PC. I think I got it figured out. Thanks! |

We use HylaFax for all of our incoming and outgoing traffic. I've set it up on Linux boxes a hundred times..Pretty easy, and there are Win32 clients for it.
