There are no rollers in the window channels of a late car, that's what the window felts are for ...

Ahhh. As I've never had to replace those (I have yet to see one wear out), it never crossed my mind they were the parts in question. You have to remove the regulator from the door. I thought the rollers were be riveted in place, but I could be wrong. IIRC, you remove the short track (#3), which is held in place by 2 6mm bolts, then maneuver the regulator out of the bottom window channel and take it out of the door.

Yes the regulator is all of #2.
The rollers are on a ball socket that is riveted to the regulator arm. Had to check it out my self as I have never replaced one. I would heat them in boiling water and press them on with a C clamp.
Are you replacing them because they are dirty or faded? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif)

When you remove the regulator spray some lube in the gears. The grease may be old and hard. Test it with no load to see if that is the problem.

Does the glass have to be removed first ?

You can leave the glass in the door but have to disconnect it from the regulator.

One 13mm head bolt on the long white plastic part hold it on.

You will need a stick or some other way of holding the glass up to remove the regulator.

The easiest way to replace these (in my opinion) is to remove the regulator. It will need to be disconnected from the window. You can use a plyers to pop them on.

Since the disassembly is required to this level, you can easily replace the outer fuzzies, and on the late cars the fuzzies for the front and rear tracks to tighten up the play on the window.

Try it this way for safety.
When the regulator is out, place it vertically in a vise and use the crank handle to operate it through its full motion.
As said before, clean and re-lubricate it to assure smooth action.

Do you have power windows?
Could just be out of alignment and need lube.

I can't remember but it's either when it's up or down you can loosen the bolts and feel the tension release if it's wrong....

The passenger side is much slower than the driver side; I have noticed the upper RH corner of the glass has some movement fore /aft. Not a lot, but like it's wiggling to finish closing the window.

Sounds like it's crooked.
Rear touches nothing...so it could either be the tall front channel, or the whole window mechanism needs to be loosened from the inner door panel and twisted slighty clockwise ( looking from the inside at the passenger door) to release the tension from the upper part.

Look at how it touches your roof, is it coming in level?

Jim, look at the pics in the power window thread....you can see the two slotted bolts to twist the whole assembly.
