First, I want to positively verify that a particular 915 type Sporto coarse flange will work in the 914 box. I have two 108mm transaxle output flanges with a 925XXXXX part number indicating from a 915 Sporto (not a 901 Sporto). I carefully measured them and they are precisely the same as the 914 type (except the size of the flange!). If anyone wants it, I can get the part number off mine (they are in the shop)... I happened to see a couple of these on EBay for what I think is cheap money.

On the other side, in the trailing arm, the 108mm flange is quite the tight fit! So that and the 5 lug 911 hubs are all installed with new bearings in the trailing arms.

Soooo... I intend to use new 930 type CV's and SwayAway axles. Does anyone know offhand the required axle length? I don't have the 993 engine in the car yet but want to get these things ordered. Seems to me the axles should be slightly shorter than standard 914 since the 930 CV's are a bit thicker.

Yes, I have checked for this info here... if the info is here, sorry I missed it in my search!

Thanks,
R

I think the stock axle length is 20.25". The Sway Away set up is to let the axle free float in the cvs. No circlips are used to lock the CBS to the axles.

944 cvs

This link may work. Some info in this thread. 944 cvs are thinner than 930, but that might be irrelevant

This thread tells you all you need to know. First page gives you the axle lenghth and post #56-on shows how I did it and some of the pitfalls.
Also 108mm early tranny input shafts do not work and in this thread I show why and what to look for.

I used these chromoly axles on my car:
http://www.pacificcustoms.com/ac525207.html
They cost a little less than the sway aways.

You'll also want to get these:
http://www.pacificcustoms.com/mm5/merchant...t_Code=ac525209
Much easier to deal with than the normal lock rings.

20.25" is the length you want. I've got early 911 108mm 4-bolt flanges, CV's, and stub axles. I've got probably 1,000 miles on the axles so far and no complaints.

I use Pacific Custom's axles with my Boxster 6 speed. I run 19.25" on the right and 20.5" on the left. You may notice the differential is offset to one side on the newer Porsche transaxles.

Pac Customs will sell individually if you call them. They are about $115 each.

Thanks for all the replies and recommendations.

Mark, Yes I read that post... and missed the axle length on the first post! Thanks.

However, your comment in one of your later posts there says that the sporto flange will not work because of dimensional differences (it is obvious in the pictures!). My statement here in post #1 was intended to clarify that the type 925 sporto axle flange is dimensionally correct. The sporto flange in the pictures in the other post is from a 1969 type 901 (really type 905) sporto box. Mine are from a type 925 sporto box derived from a type 915 box.
