I took the trim pieces that hold the front main Targa seal to the inside of the door frame (in front of the triangle window) off of one car to clean and repurpose in another with a new 914Rubber Targa Seal. There seemed to be a black, gooey, sticky something that apparently seals behind the trim to the sheet metal.
Sorry for the lack of pictures, but does anybody know what I should use to reseal it?

Butyl tape, like you'd use for the windshield. But thinner, I think?

the tape can be purchased at your local CarQuest and probably other FLAPS in a roll in varying thicknesses.

3m weather strip adhesive may be a non standard solution. The butyl bead I do have, but you don't need a roll. The 3M weather strip adhesive, stays tacky and works well to seal. You can also pick up locally.
