HEy all...
I have a question for all of you in the bay area.... How much do you pay for insurance?Who is your insurance provider? Do you have full coverage?What do you recommend I get? I have a bad driving record. I had one insurance guy tell me i needed an appraisal for my car so that i can get full coverage!WTF? What do you gusy think, what do you guys have/recommend? Also I need to change both of my black doors on this 72 teener? How much are they?Anybody selling? Thanks for your help y'all. Renaud. |

most people use hagerty, it is dirt cheap (~$200 a year).
also, I see you are in the east bay. look at EASY automotive for doors if nobody here has them. they are a wrecking yard with 914's. |

i use 21st. i had no driving record when i moved down here, which is apparently even worse than having a bad one, and they were the only ones that had online service *and* would insure me in the first place.
but i'm paying a premium for that. $800 a year, just the basics, nothing fancy. no appraisal, so if i total it, the $18k i have dumped into the car so far will be lost in space ... oh well, one of these days, i'll figure out something better. until then ... check my signature -- i'm keepin' it in the family. i think there are a few guys on the board who do insurance.
between my low mileage and clean record, i'm paying a VERY reasonable rate for full coverage on my truck and 914. (the truck is a joke, but whatever...). yup, foreigners get screwed big time here. that never made sense to me. |

I guess this is one time it's a good thing to be (relatively) old, married, and have too many cars. I've still got fully loaded 100/300 coverage on the 914 for approx $400/year, via State Farm. IMO the limitations of the "classic" insurance like Haggerty etc. are not worth switching at this point. Thru some miracle the wife and I both have crystal-clear driving records too, which helps quite a bit.

Just keep in mind that Haggerty and the other collector car ins companies have lots of restrictions on use such as no driving to work/school, must be stored in a locked garage, driver must have ten years driving experence, must have another car for each driver in the household, etc, etc. If you can live with these restrictions the insurance can be great. If you cannot then it is standard insurance for you. tom... |

I use Gecko, they have almost 100% customer satisfaction, and their mascot is a tasty lizard/cat toy.
I pay.. about.. uhh... it's like $500 a year, and it would pay enough to replace most of what I have in the car (used) and feed the idiot that hit me thru a toob for a long while. I don't cause accidents. Never have, never will. Situational awareness; Live it. Don't get collector insurance... make sure you can get enough cash from a total to buy another teener, and drive it. M |

I do have collector insurance and the restrictions through American Collectors Insurance are very do-able for me. 2500 miles, no drivers under 10 years of experience, pleasure use, not a backup to main car, no racing events. $62.OO/year with a stated value of $8000.00 for full coverage.
Of course the reason I find this reasonable (the restrictions) is that I have 4 cars, an SUV, a motorcycle, and a boat and jetski. I have a hard time putting miles on any of them considering the 12 mile commute. The car is very, very original, I have the Boxster and 240Z for autocrossing. It is basically, a concours car. Rob |

You might want to contact Howard or Mark Moody. I ended up getting my insurance through Mark, but I believe Howard carries Mercury and Hagerty, if I'm not mistaken. You've got nothing to lose. Talk to them. THey're both good people, and they understand what it's like to have a teener.

...I will try to reach Howard, and maybe if possible go with hagerty... sounds like a sweet deal, too good to be true! Anyways thanks guys, great help! Drove by the porsche dealership in milbrae by the SFO airport....stopped by and sat in a GT2 mmhmhmhmhhnhnnh!!!!! nice. They had a carrera 4 for $49,999 cheap deal? this was a '99 model I believe. anyways, soon, I gotta wait I guess. R. |
