I drive buy this forlorn looking teener every day. It's been sitting next to the road for about 6 or 7 months for sale. Not very actively though. The sign fell out of the window about 5 months ago. Anyway I'm wondering what it's worth. My wife thinks we should buy it for parts, which is not a bad idea in an of itself. The problem being I stopped to look at it one day and poked my finger through the quarter panel behind the passengers door. That made me walk away without much more inspection. Didn't know what the hell hole is at the time, and now that I do it gives me a different perspective on the whole thing.
it's a 73,not too bad looking, faded red paint. It appears to be all there, the sign said it had a G50 trans and side shifter. I think it may run but not well. Like I said it hasn't moved in some time. The owner wants $1500. I haven't talked to him or got much more info. I'm thinking of pursueing this further but wanted some other opinions. Judging from my rather short inspection I think he's dreamin but I'm new to teeners. So give it to me down an dirty. Hiball, lowball, is it a sawsall party in the makin? I am going to go back and inspect the hell hole soon and go from there. What else should I look at? Thanks in advance for the input ,all is appreciated. QUOTE (bare 1 @ Feb 4 2005, 10:56 PM)

the sign said it had a G50 trans and side shifter

in 914 language that impossible, unless he has a spare tranny, the g 50 is a tail shifter ( 914 language ) and is a tranny and we all know you cant have 2 trannys in the car.

but it might mean it has a bigger motor in it, you should at least see if the motor is a 6 or a conversion

Well, I doubt it has a G50 and a side shifter trans. They are totally different. The G50 is from a later model 993 and cars like that. If it does have a G50 the trans alone would almost be worth the price if its any good. Think of it as a parts only car and you will be alright. With that in mind, offer him 5 to 800 for it depending on what you find after a good inspection. Good luck with it and take some pics and post them here. cant really price one if I cant see it.

My bad !! I screwed up on the shifter business. It did say G50. And unless I missed something in my self education (which is entirely possible) ,I don't think it's a 6 because it only has 4 lug wheels.

Don't worry about pics, the guys here can tell you everything about any 914 in the world without seeing it. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif)
It sounds like a lo ball car. The owner may be selling the G50 seperate of the car, meaning not in the car.
5 lug wheels doesn't mean 6 cylinder and vice versa. I have a V8 with four lug wheels.
I would take the time to stop and talk to the seller and go over the car. Or there are enough of people in your neck of the woods who would be happy to come out and give you a few pointers, the promise of a beer or two later would be a good inducement.
Good luck and keep use posted.

Uh-oh (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif) watch out for Craig he has been known to swoop in on a good deal. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif)

Seriously though if you could get it for around $500 it is nice to have all those spare parts around.

ask Geoff about his fool-proof way to test passenger side longs? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/boldblue.gif) it is not without risk, i warn you, but it will definitely let you know if they are bad!

keep us posted on this; if there is to be a sawzall party, we'd like to know.

Geoff's famous foolproof method is not without its risks.. a risk to the car in question,
and a risk to you of expensive dental work (due to the owner's reaction).

It's kind of a standing joke around here..

or jumping, to be more specific! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif)

Is it a 2.0L? If its a 73 it should have a badge that says 2.0 on the back or 1.7 for the engine type.
A 2.0L is worth $500-800 even if its rusty cuz of the parts. 1.7's arent to me unless the interior is primo.

What kind of rims?

i spoke with robin this am. stamped steel appearance wheels. the discription he gave me regarding the rust sounded pretty bad. he should go very low ball. the cost for someone else to drag it off the island would be strike one.

Arrrggggg &%^% telemarketers- (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/ar15.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/ar15.gif) I had this typed up once and got kicked off and lost it . Any way I stopped by after work today and "poked " around. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/barf.gif) I'm not interested .
73-1.7- 901 trans? It's rough. A 2x4" hole in the pan under the hell hole-lots of flacky rust around that. Water in the rear trunk although not bad considering the rain we've been getting,Front trunk lid is tweaked.drivers door handle broke ,interior rough- covers on seats, ignition switch busted out. Says it runs and drives? I didn't see any thing I really need or want.
I think I will just upgrade mine as it breaks /wears out. It's in pretty decent shape and my wife like to ride in it so (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/dance.gif) down the road I go (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/driving.gif) -after I replace the rear wheel bearing , some bushings ,and a tie rod. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif)
If any of you vultures ,I mean teeners are interested ,get on the Mukilteo ferry and then drive north, take the turnoff for the Keystone ferry and you can't miss it. If your coming from P.T. turn right off the boat and follow the road. 2 hard 90's and a short sprint and your there. Happy Hunting. Oh yea I didn't talk to the owner so I don't know about a price. If your interested pm me and I will get the phone #
