I was just reminiscing about my old auto-x days and was thinking back to Gary Walton's amazing Porsche 914-4 that he used to terrorize SCCA E-mod with back in the 1980's.
I think he won something like 4 National Championships with that car.
Super wide body with a built 2.5 four cylinder and if I remember correctly they did a lot of computer modeling to come up with the cage, etc.

I Google'd this, but came up blank with any pics online.

Does anyone know if Gary still has the car? Or if it even exists anymore?

I remember some great write-ups possibly in the SCCA Sporscar magazine about it's build.

Anyone out there have any interesting info or updates about this car?

ps It was painted a menacing black with Garretson logo's I believe.

I spoke with him a few years back about a 914-6 he had for sale. He had it then.

His son Rich was involved with Jerry Woods Enterprises ...Sure he could tell you.
Got a "ride along" in that back in the day....He would instruct you on where to
" hold on" so your hands weren't flailing about...Talk about "G's ".
And a great guy to boot !

That car was probably one of the cars that ignited my 914 obsession. Hope it's still in one piece and perhaps could be shown at Rennfest?

Any guesses to how much the car weighed?

And where can you get flares that huge in this day?
The Sheridan Motorsports fiberglass bodywork looks much different than just GT flares that have been enlarged enormously. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Wonder what size wheels and tires that car ran?

I'd love to try a replicate this car, but will need to learn much more about it first.

I'm sure that 2.5 was a ticking time bomb of an engine.
But very lightweight compared to a 911 based engine.
Maybe putting out something over 200hp?
Couple that with a car that weighed around 1500 lbs and you get a formidable combination for sure at the time.

I think the flairs were available from AIR. American International Racing.

They had a bunch of 914 bodywork in their day.

That, or they were GT flairs with a bunch of widening...

Gary is still around as is his son Rich. I haven't been out at the track as much as i would like to but they both have been running a lot with PRC in the last few years.

Last i saw Gary was at Thunderhill ...
