the angle drive (for the lack of a better word) that the distributor-shaft slides into was installed 180 deg. off !!!

i'm driving a loaner 914 right now, bone stock '70 1.7L because we left my car at the shop to cool overnight to adjust the valves tomorrow and figure out why one bank of the carbs don't do snot on idle.
i can unplug the wires and it doesn't effect idle, but as soon as i come off idle it runs on all four and pulls *very* strong.
man, it runs sooooooooooo much better now. it's quieter too. and much smoother. just have to fix the idle thing.

anyways, i totally forgot how quiet a stock 914 is, i almost fell asleep on the way home.

i'm going to get some rum & coke now and i'll have that in conjunction with a good cuban cigar.

PS: we ditched the 050 and put in a dizzy from a 1.8L (a 009 i believe), set timing to 30 deg. and got a very nice power curve all the way up to 7k rpm ...
