i am not degrading your porsche knowledge.....I'm just saying that A) most of the members reside on the west coast. If that is true then shipping would be a huge nightmare (ask Jake Raby). B)Front clips from 914's gone are $800....i found a restorable car for $500. I take what i need *now* so i dont have to bum rides from my girlfriend or mom like a kid and then go back and fix the pink car. I realize the cost is going to be outrageous, and that's why i'm not going to dive in and do a crap, total hack-job. Please...I don't want to anger anybody on this board. PLease regard this as a genuine thank you for your opinion.

and to answer your question, I need both trunks and a deck lid. I'm getting rid of the turbo-tail and I need to repair some things on my red car.

If you cut the pink car you are dead to me. For the rest of time you will be known as the guy that took a crap on 914 history. Finding a special car or one off in a model these days is rare. I'm not saying the car will ever be worth $ 10,000.00 or something, but it's the passion for the Marq. Based on the photos all the rust repair panels the pink car needs are available and easy to install. The paint can be mixed but if you hack the front off the code and vin will never exist again. Do us a favor and sell the pink car. infact if you dis-like the car enough to cut it up, do me a favor and sell the works and get a Mustang or Honda or something.

first thing bd you need to put you name in your sig.

second do you self a favor wait a few months, somebody will be doing a sawzall aprty and you could probably get the clip to you for 150 bucks or so on a pallet through forward air, you just might have to put 2 pieces back together, but then you are putting a car together whats it matter.

how much is your body guy going to charge you to fix the 914-turned-into-a-snow-plow for???

that has got to be a $2000 job just to cut and reweld the front section and that is if the red tub is not tweaked too bad....you do know that the fenders do no un-bolt?? if you body guy can do the job in a few hours, he's brilllant or a hack and the car will be a hazard to drive......I have a decent front hood you can have for free, it's white....surface rust at some of the seams....

to replace any of that sheetmetal, everything has to be cut and welded back together....in my opinion, the car is totalled unless you have big bucks or can do it yourself...

I think you are better off transfering your good motor and parts onto the new "pink" car...of course I'd check the rust at the longs, they look like cr@p and could be a lot worse than the seller was admitting to.....

Throwing in my .02 here. The wrecked red car looks like a total to me. It's a lot of work to replace a front clip properly, and it's only feasable if you do the work yourself. If you plan on paying someone to do it, it's gonna cost big bucks. Ask McMark. His deer dented car is a real good example. The pink car is possibly a one of a kind car, true history. It would truly be a shame to have it cut up, because the chances of it becoming a whole car again are slim. Once you get hip deep in debt from trying to repair the red car, you're probably gonna run out of steam to do another. Unless, of course, you become an addict like many of us. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) I can't believe there are no other 914ers in your part of the world who can't give you some kind of help. There has got to be a way of doing what you need to do to fix your red car without destroying a piece of Porsche history. PLEASE! Think hard about this before you break out the sawzall.

There's alot of speculation that the pink is one of a kind. Didn't I read somewhere here there are members who use to sell PORSCHE in the 70's? Can they chime in and given a more subjective opinion to keep a historical car alive? Is there a historic contact within Porsche North America that can supply one with info. Or how about some old timer thats been at Porsche since he was like 16 washing cars on the lots...these guys could be a goldmine of info, or BS.

What ever you do, don't cut your ties with the "family". If you aren't familiar with Rick, his Alien Porsche 8 conversion is a piece of art (I have plenty of memories/pics form the last WCC) and a great resource to others here. Don't cut off your nose despite your face, bud.

Its not like the pink is frickin Mary K, it looks to me more like a Fushia, or closely bordering red.

I do hear your sence of urgency, you need a daily driver. Listen to the wisdom ...you've stumbled on to something big.

Again, IMHO.

the name's britt..as short for britton. I'll keep you all posted. Color code 78. Mueller, the longs are toast in the pink car. It's a okay parts car, but I wouldnt trust the longs man. if anybody wants the car, $650. Come and get it tonite. Damn guys. The acution was on eBay for 4/7 days it seems that nobody bid $400 for it and when I made the offer they said fine. i'm not liek some of these people that will just let a parts car go to hell. If i tell you all it will get a proper restoration, it will get one. Brent, you need to see this in person. Hello, it's been repainted red anyway. The student at Cornell Univ didn't want his/her precious 914 to be HOT HOT PINK. Brent, what family? This family? Come on guys. The red car was a daily driver, i dont have any money to buy another car. My dad could buy one and i pay him back, but my mom would shit a brick (almost literally) there are alot of circumstances in my family that prevent me from getting another car right now. Mark the 914ers are numbered 2 that are even semi-alive. Me and Greg(bgman from the bird forum). He hasnt returned calls or been online since November '04. I saw the auction and called on it. The car will soon get a restoration. I've already been looking for a new 2.0 for the 73.

ordinarily i would be like alright! lets do this. But on a map were like 6 inches or more apart. bowling green and louisville are like maybe a centimeter or less apart. If it takes my 2 hours to get to my college, it would take me months to get to yours. It's simple logistics. I have a "restorable" car now and it didnt take $800 or more to ship. Least money possible and the closest to me. Barbourville was it. I'll keep you posted. if anybody wants the pink car, i'll help you get it onto a car dolly. I'm not trying to piss you all off, i just want to fix my car and have a project too. that's all i want. if you all want the car, somebody here in the family take the car.

I'm trying to figure how to get down to you. Ihave a parts car with a perfect front clip that I could bring down and trade you for pinky, but i just can't figure out how right now. I just started another car and am leaving for Wyoming for a week on the 18. If you want to do this let me know. If I have to I will clip it and ship the clip, but then there is the problem of getting pinky back here (Virginia) I just want to save that car and your life, and keep Rick out of jail (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif)

I have a suggestion- and this is what I did when I found out that unrestored 914's make shitty daily drivers. Buy a little honda crx, mr2, 240sx, or whatever for 1500 bucks. Then, take your time, and fix your red 914 properly. Just a suggestion (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif)

I 'm never confrontational on the Board. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif) I made that statement for a reason. This is flat text. It's hard to express passion in flat text. If you truely have a passion for the 914 you will understand. Otherwise fine a car that inspires you and sell the pink car and the wreck. Personally, I wouldn't fix the wreck. I owned a collision shop for 20 years, I had a Cellette fixure bench in my shop. The 914 front is very stout. With that much damage the front suspension mount points need to be fixured to insure safe and proper alignment.

I know where a parts car is up here as well. It's even red! I have spare lids in my garage. I have a trailer and a truck to tow it. But I can't take time off right now to travel. Back away from the pink car (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wub.gif) with the sawsall buddy! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/sawzall-smiley.gif) Someone on the board will give you the $ 650.00 you want.

McMark, Post the pictures of what the doner car looked like after you cut the front off! It's not pretty, and in 99.9999 % of the time it's not reversible.

when the wreck happened, i made it perfectly clear that parts would be covered by me. Everything i found was not in my budget. the structure is still sound, i looked the red car over very well. The pink car was perfect. The roller project will need to be put on hold for a bit. It will recieve a fine treatment of a sheltered life for the time being while i finish the red car. the red car has been restored with lots of $$(thanks dad) and time. 2 years, but i must say I love the 914. It's not the problems, or the timing issues or finding parts...it's about the learnign experience and the community, as well as the feeling you get driving the car. I did have a car you all mentioned--i had a 94 Jeep Wrangler....get-in-and-drive. But, whenever i looked at the 914, something wanted me to drive it. So the point came to earn a little cash and my brother go the jeep and I recieved a thorough inspection and tune-up by both Porsche mechanics and a VW mechanic, whom both say that the red car is a fine looking 914. According to both, I am the only 914er who visits either people, both qualified to work on these cars. Watch what you say about my body guy, he's a fine person, and spent a long time doing all kinds of cars. He doesn't skip corners, not with someone he knows personally anyway. i'm goign to restore this pink car (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif).....i just need lots of info. I need the engine size for this car (1.7 or 2.0) with VIN: 4732905940.

Glad to see you've come to your senses. If I hadn't just applied for a new position within the company I work for I'd deliver the front half of a red 1972 and some spare lids I have here. I've been looking for a car to rebuild stock. I didn't see the car on ebay.
Do some research on the car. Pay the $ 90.00 for the factory document thing. That tells you what, when, where, and how.
