just got done removing the front suspension, rack and master cylinder, and now i need to know some stuff...

i found a 19mm mc on pelican for $170., is this the cheapest price?

the rack has a ripped boot w/ some fluid in it. Do i need to rebuild the rack? is there a kit and where can i find one? What kind of fluid?

Turbo tie rods, they are on ebay all day long for $100. All the same? Good price?

I think i can get some new brake line at KOI up the street, just need to bend it up, not sure what else i would need besides alot of scrubbing and POR15 and undercoat, thanks for any help w/ this. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/type.gif)

ebay turbo tie rods are not the lemforder brand. the lemforder ones cost a bit more but are a higher quality......

you could REbuild your MC..... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif)

i would rebuild the mc if it was a 19mm, but i doubt the 15 will keep up...

so do i need to check an see what brand rack i have? or do the late cars have these? or is lemforder the brand of the tie rods themselves and will the others work?

Don't listen to Aaaaron. Don't rebuild your MC. Bite the bullet and get a new one. Don't skimp when it comes to the brakes or any other safety item for that matter.
cheers, Elliot

good point. IF you are on a budget...AND you trust yourself IMPLICITLY...you can rebuild your MC.
is that OK Elliot?

there is a set of lemforder on ebay right now for 200 buy it now. I just bought a set of "german" made ones for $97. If i dont like them i could always pawn them off on someone on here right? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif)

i am going to have to bite the bullet on the mc, i think vertexauto has them for $170 as opposed to 200 or more.

anyone know what is involved in rebuilding a rack or is everything i need in the tie rod kit- the boot?

Why do you think you need to rebuild the rack? is there slop side to side in your wheel? 1st check that all your U-joints are tight in the steering linkage/shaft.
Not much you can do to a rack to screw it up, unless you take it apart. I just did that to see what was in it. NOTHING only seal is at the top where the shaft goes in. both rack ends have a brass bushing. What you see as a leak is probably 30 years of melting grease. Just put new boots on it which come with the new tie rod kits. The only thing that can be done besides buying all new parts is try putting a thin shim under the cap at the bottom of the pinion. (that diamond shaped thing with two 13mm bolts) I doubt that you even need this all it does is add pressure to the under side of the rack gear teeth.

The cheapest Lemforder turbo tie rod ends I could find was from GPR. I bought them. Definitely less than $150 (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif)
