I've seen lots of people give away 1.7s and 1.8s. My guess is that it's worth a couple hundred as a core engine and maybe up to $500 for a verified good running, good compression engine.

I just sold one for $250. I never had the motor in a car and while it turned freely, looked good and was 100% complete, I could not verify that it ran. I now am trying to sell a 1.7L that I know runs well and I am asking $500 for it.

i sold a 1.8 to a list member for I recall $350 or $300, no FI stuff, but full sheet metal. I told him it ran when pulled, and would refund if found to be a dead motor (ie no oil pressure, or dead cylinder.) Had no complaints.
The little 1.8 or 1.7,motors, they seem to command less than half the price of a 2.0, but my ole 1.7 was fast, and got better milage than my or friends 2.0 motor 914's |

Anyone care to take a shot at the value of the '75 2.0 I just pulled from my car?
Since I'm doing a V8 conversion, the complete motor (air cleaner to headers) and tin goes. Ran prior to storage some 20 years ago (tags on plates are '85), but I never attempted to start it (gas was all laquered up). It did freely turn over, so nothing appears to be frozen up. I'm keeping the trans. Andy |

As a non-running core, I'd say $500-600.

$100 - $500 for a unknown miles engine.
There are two types of buyers for used engines...someone who needs one and someone who is buying for just incase. If the engine is low miles on a compleat rebuild it can command more. |
