My door post VIN decal was torn up when owned before me. Is there any blank decals for a 1972 914 which I can replace mine with? And if so, how would one replicate the VIN number which are cut dots on the decal?

thanks

well if you were real freggin good you could do it with a engraver, but the dot thing was most likely some 8 pin dot-matrix printer that was designed for printing on those tags...

Auto Atlanta advertizes that they have the blanks for some years. Don't know the cost. Also my Porsche dealer parts guy says you can order them from him, get part number, bring in title to verify you are the owner and $60 and they will get you an official VIN decal as per original. Thats all I know of, maybe somebody else out there has a better idea.

I just did this on my 911...the body stripper that was used obviously destroyed it. Take about 100 bucks, your title and go to your dealer. They order it then it is made in Germany with the correct number and manufacturer date. Took about 2 months for mine to come.

Question about AA's decal...can they actually punch the vin number and manufacturer date into it? When I talked to 3 dealers on this they all said the same thing and that was the punching of the #'s was only done in Germany at Porsche.

Ok..I did this last year (what my comments were based on) for my 911 and it was very easy for my 911....KEY NOTE 911!. I went to the Fort Wayne (O'daniels) Porsche dealership yesterday (was driving by on business) with my title and registration in hand to do this for my 914. He went online with porsche and printed a document from porsche that for model 914 they stopped doing this. The document was dated 1993.

So, anybody do this with a dealership since 93? Anybody find out if AA can stamp them also?

I am the parts manager at a Porsche dealership, and posted all that you need to do to get this sticker. I even posted my contact info, and am still willing to help any club member. To date, only three guys actually sent me the info I need to get the stickers...I need the registration faxed to me and about 6 to 8 weeks. The stickers are still available for 914's. the last one I got was about Aug or Sept of last year.

I remember that thread. I'll be searching for it this weekend and pursuing a new sticker in the next few days.

Thanks Eric!

yeah, I checked my records, and you were the Aug sticker...We ordered it early in Aug, and I got it out to you by the end of Sept.

I certainly will help anyone with this...but it does take time. gotta love the fatherland (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/monkeydance.gif)

Bradford MA? Do you work at Ira? I live in West Newbury, and I can bring the info in anytime. I also bought my Audi there.

Hello,

I am restoring a '74 914 and lost the VIN decal in a media blast. Do you still have a way of getting a replacement? I took a picture of it before it was destroyed and have the title etc.
