I want to replace my Weber Carbs with EFI.
Any recommendations for throttle bodies? Weber, TWM, CB performance, others? Which fuel pump is best? what PSI and GPH specs should I be looking for. Is a fuel pressure regulator required? vacuum operated? Which injectors? I'm gonna start out trying Megasquirt, if that doesn't work out, I'll be looking for an off the shelf EMS. thanks |

what size is your engine? if it's a 2.0L (or slight overbore) with a stock cam, simply go with the stock 2.0L setup. that'll give you anything you need. runners, injectors, fuel regulater, fuel pump, TB, air-filter etc. etc. etc. ... if you have a more agressive cam and more displacement, you'll be a perfect candidate for the larger runners, plenum and TB i'm having made right now! prototype will be ready soon to be shown off here ... It's still a 2.0, but with fairly aggressive "carb" cam, and some oversized valves. So it might get by on the 2.0 stuff, but a larger engine (2.3) is in the future, so I want to have something I can build on.

ok, stock setup won't cut it then. as i said, i'm having everything fabbed right now (prototype should be ready soon) to run with an aftermarket FI (MegaSquirt in my case) ... bigger dia. runners, aftermarket injectors, bigger plenum, bigger throttle body. the whole crap-o-la. you should also look into getting some nice sized headers. the stock HE won't flow enough to get all that exhaust out of there ... Herb,
What size are those Weber throttle bodies? Do they fit the same manifold as the carbs? i.e. if I have 40IDF carb manifolds, which throttle body will fit? |

I will have to find my paperwork...I think that they are 44mm. They do fit the generic manifolds...

they work fine, the only issue i have with them is that you give up low end torque (which is usually what people want in a T4) and you also have the issue of getting them syncronized right ... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif) Andy |

Plus getting good MAP and air intake temp signals are much easier with a single TB and plenum. I'd say that using a stock 2.0 intake setup to at least get the EFI system working would be your best bet, and only go to a larger TB and plenum when you actually need it. |

FWIW:
TWMs are not true IDFs. The bolt patterns do not match up on the air-cleaner side. They also need 20mm spaces in most cases ($80). They are AN6 IN/OUT fuel rails. Cheapest I found was here: http://racetep.com/ (dont let them bluff you on their policy) "We do charge the card at the time of purchase, not at the time of shipping unless it was pre-arranged as a deposit only" (Its against VISA policies, if they charge you card start screaming for product.) Best injectors: http://www.rceng.com/ There is a good sizing program there. Pump: Walbro: http://store.yahoo.com/fuel-pumps/inline.html This is one of the few pumps you can get with AN6 IN/OUT. To use with http://www.jwesteng.com/fuel.htm -Rich Hilgersom |

although I did the dual TB's, I would agree that the stock TB and intake set up will work and make tuning MUCH easier..that Is a good idea, I might just try and re-install the stock runners and see what happens.....I hear Dyno day.....

For me, the whole point of going to FI was to eliminate the sycn'ing of dual TB's.
A larger TB and a custom plenum I think is the best way to go. later, Tom |

Just curious.
Anyone measured the length of the stock intake runners and compared that to carbs with "tall" velocity stacks installed? |
