cv axle angles Options

Ok, im going to be mocking up my engine and trans combo over the next few months and am trying to find any info regarding how CV angles affect performance if they do.

This is both vertical and horizontal angle.

Does the axle require any upward or forward angle ?

I know with a typical full rear differential car, the pinion angle needs to be set so that under full torque the universal should align to zero degrees.

I realize 930 CV joints have a max angle (cant remember what it is)

Is it as long as i stay within that spec i should be fine ?

930 CV's will be good up to 28°. I run these units that are good to 45° http://www.rcvperformance.com/product-deta...spx?sku=SI-15RF. These are non plunging and require a sliding axle like this. http://www.pacificcustoms.com/porsche-930-...moly-axles.html

The problem with a Boxster transaxle is the flanges will pop out if the axle angle is too steep. Ask me how I know... Don't. Read my build thread. I still run quite the angle but it's up/down now nor forward/back. When I had a compound angle (both above) I could drive about 100 miles before the flange popped out of the tranny.

Re mounting my engine/tranny to straighten the angle a little solved the issue. If you use a tranny with bolt on flanges you might be OK. The Boxster unit uses a circlip to hold the flange in. The clips are a consumable product and cost $1 from the dealer.
