Looked at 74 1.8 today. If car was moving, not able to put in first gear. Seller noted that first was not syncomeshed. Is this true or was he covering up a problem?

it might need clutch cable adjustment or a first gear sycro and or slider |

Only R is not synchromeshed. All forward gears are. If you get 3-5 then 1st is the problem. If you get no gears, then bushings, cable, clutch is on the suspect list.
