i have come across a 914-6 replica (very good job) the car is in great shape, no flares, 2.0 6 cyl engine and since it is for sale i was wondering , what is the going rate for such cars.

ni pics for now, but the car is in great shape, everything -6 about it, even the rear valence. it had its paint freshly redone at my friend's garage, so i know it's a top job, no rust whatsoever.....
the guy wants around 15k....
how close is he to reality?

you can get a decent real six for $15k which will always hold value. probably not as nice with new paint and all, but I don't understand why anyone would go through the trouble to make a factory six "clone" with a stock 2.0? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wacko.gif)

who knows, the conversion could have started many, many years ago.....besides, not everyone can afford or justify a 3.0 or bigger motor...it still would be a nice car to have...

I agree with what they said. $15K is pushing it for a conversion with only a 2L engine. I usually see conversions with larger or hotter motors selling in the $10-13K range.

If the car really is cherry with new paint and top notch/factory conversion parts were used I'd consider offering around $12K with eye towards dropping in a 3.2L motor.

Put it this way:

Mint condition 4 banger with fresh paint $6-$10K

conversion parts to make it into a six $4K

six cylinder motor $2-$10

2.0s are relatively cheap in the used market, as lots of them got removed to fit 2.2s or bigger. Even if it's a 2.0T like the original had, it's still got more poke than a stock 2.0 /4, and sounds much better, too. A 2.0 also doesn't require a lot of the expensive conversion parts like an adapted flywheel (nor does a 2.2). If it's a 2.0E or L engine, it's going to make something like 140hp, which is enough to go pretty quick.

The price is ultimately going to depend on the parts used. Gearbox, engine mount, oil tank are the big items. If it's a worn-out tailshifter with a homemade tank and mount with blobby welds, new paint isn't going to carry the day. If it's a fresh sideshifter, a Rich Johnston mount, and an OEM tank, then it will fetch a lot more.

it has a freshly rebuilt 915 'box, oem oil tanks and the whole lot of conversion parts, dash mounted key, specific trim, etc... my guess is that the parts have been salvaged from a wrecked -6 and plugged into that car, it just has too many -6 specific details.
it looks like the real thing except for the vin.
plus it has a custom SS exhaust....

are you sure it really has a 915? that is not stock for a 914-6. if so, all the better for dropping a hot 3.2L in at some point and getting rid of the wimpy 2.0T (if it is a T) motor.

i'm sure it's a 915, i've helped rebuild it, the guy was thinking about dropping a 2.4 in it, thus the 'box, a rebuilt 2.4 should go for $4k, but i can get a deal on one for $2k, so if i get the car for $10k, it should be interesting (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/aktion035.gif)

If you are thinking about going with a Bigger motor and you have a 915 go 3.0 or bigger (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif)

in fact it's just a matter of $$$, a rebuilt 3.0 is about $6k. and i have my other project right now, converting my crappy engined 1.7 into a subaru 3.3 liters flat 6 (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/mueba.gif)
and that's serious $$$.....
