on my 73.when i turn key i hear fuel pump, when i turn to engage starter, sometimes it will engae, other times starter will just click or turn a few turns and other times it fully engages and starts car.new starter one week old,i replaced starter because i had problem with previous starter and it did the same thing.
ive thought maybe a bad starter switch but it does engage fuel pump every time.ive tried different batteries ,still the same symptoms car runs great and always will start eventually. any ideas.? |

The starter contacts in the switch may be bad. Very common. New switches are crap. Install a starter relay to take the electrical load off the switch to preserve it longer.
