I am trying to replace the locks on the doorhandles with new parts.

This might help.
You can probably get a lock cylinder from one of the vendors here. Post a WTB.
Tweet must be the guy who sells the rekey kits.

I took a door lock cylinder to bughaus today. While he did not have just the cylinder, he took one out of a new vw handle. The 914 cylinder fit in the handle and turned, so I'm gonna say, yes. Be aware that it does not use a a Porsche key. I have a new vw ignition switch coming tomorrow($10.00 for after market switch). I'm going to dismantle the switch and see if I can make a Porsche key fit.
