Hello, My name is Tom, and I am now a ricer.
I live about 20 miles from work, so I drive a beater back and forth to pile miles on (instead of my 4x4 Dakota). I was driving a pretty, white, 4-door Plymouth Acclaim. 2.5, Automatic... Blech. But, I got it for $800 and everything works, even the A/C. But, the wife and I decided that I needed something a little more exciting (plus, I couldn't pass anyone). So, I picked up a 1988 Toyota Supra Turbo. 103K miles. Runs like a top. (IMG:http://www.qtm.net/~persot/supra/side.JPG) (IMG:http://www.qtm.net/~persot/supra/front.JPG) (IMG:http://www.qtm.net/~persot/supra/interior_2.JPG) (IMG:http://www.qtm.net/~persot/supra/7m-gte.JPG) It's a fun car, but I don't think I'll be hitting the Supra forums up THAT much. Too much rice for me. Now, if I can just find a wing on Ebay, plus some Gretty "chirping" BOV's, I'll be set. Andyrew, I don't understand what you are saying... Looks like leet, sounds like shit... Oh yeah, it's ricer talk!!!
STFU! Yeah, I'm not touching anything on this monster yet. I think it needs shocks (still has the original OEM eletronic ones) so she's a little squishy on the turns. It'll spin the tires all thru second on wet payment when the boost hits, so that's kinda cool. But, the LSD in the rear makes drifting easy (Sport package on it too). I'm still working on the interior - it's comfortable, but Blue isn't really my color... But, from what I can tell - it is Miles' (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/blink.gif) Later, Tom |

So how quick is that thing - like sub 7 second 0-60 runs?
cause it don't matter how it looks, as long as they only see your tail lights! |

Dood, can't you just drop a tab of acid like a normal human being. Nice ride. Are those floormats brown? |

It's got a set of winter floormats on top of the stock ones. They'll come out when the snow stops flying.
It's quick, probably in the 7 or less second range. I haven't really wrung it out in 1st, it would probably just spin the tires on the wet pavement. I love it when the boost gauge comes up and it's just a solid, linear, thrust. MUST - NOT - MOD - THIS - CAR.... I have to remind myself it's a daily driver... LOL Later, Tom |

a civic with a bodykit and a fart can brings up the "ricer" image to me. hell, i guess a badly done jetta or golf is a "schnitzel(sp)"or "spatzle(sp)". supras, rx7, mitzu 3000, turbos all, are just sports cars from the other ocean. the air conditioning in the supra will be nice when it's hot and humid.

One thing that makes turbo's feel faster is that the more rpm's you give it, the more hp you make. it just keeps making hp, like crazy.
I love boost... It feels soo good (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) How is the throttle response under 3k? (ie no boost) |

Just wait until you need to change spark plugs. I could barely do the plugs on an NA Supra.

Tom, its rice you can mod it and still use it as a daily driver. That is what makes them so nice. Not like a 914. Plus the rust issue is not as big a problem.
Change the turbo and you can crank an easy 450+ daily driven HP. How much fun would that be. |

Yeah, there are spark plugs under there somewhere... Hell, it's a straight-6, they sit right on top, it should be cake! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/blink.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/blink.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/blink.gif)
It's still pretty snappy under 3k, I was really surprised. You can't even really hear the turbo either.... But, it registers boost on the gauge so I know it's working. Not like my wife's 2004 Passat 1.8T, you can really feel the boost come on and hear it. I guess it *could* use a little more boost (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smilie_pokal.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif) Later, Tom |
