I bet it was like this kid I grew up with. He was two years younger than me. I knew him as Scott, then one day he said his name was Tim. He wanted to be called by his middle name. I think it was because Scott was his dads name also, he lived with his divorced mother....hence, dropping the painful name. So Paul-Steve, my guess : One first name, One middle?
