Thanks T.C.
Though it seems by this thread I paid too much for this 6 it kind of fell into my lap and as much as I know about some Porsche's I know a 914-6 is mid engine and that is about it. Just enough to get myself in trouble (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I did check with a friend at the factory and it is numbers matching. It is what it is but this will be a nice car when I am finished with it. I just bought a barn find 1970-6 last week in the San Jose /Monterey area of California. It is not listed on the http://p914-6info.net/ so I can find no earlier info on the car. But if you people think at 16k that car is expensive then I think I made a big booboo... oh well (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Hi Van! Hopefully yours isn't as rough as the one being discussed here. Condition is so very important with these cars--it is easy to spend more than they are worth on fixing structural rust...

Half the joy of purchasing a classic car is the enjoyment of restoring it playing with it and searching out the parts. If you got all that then you got a good deal...

I have restored a few Porsche's so I am no stranger to that process and understand the advantages of having a complete car that is not full of rust. This 914 has some areas that need attention but not bad and very complete.
Helltoe914 your car looks a lot like a guy I ran with in the mid 90's named Bill Newlin |

Yup, that's Newlin's old car. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) You knew Bill? Cool, I used to autoX with him at one point. He drove me to John Clever's memorial in his 928; I think that's the last time I talked to him.

Both of us were members of the GGR of PCA. Bill was more of a auto x and time trial guy and I pretty much raced but did do some time trialing with the club.
Last time I saw Bill and his wife Rebecca was when I won the Porsche Parade race at Thunderhill around 2000. Rebecca sang the National Anthem. Can't remember if Bill raced or not. I recognized the car right away even in that little photo. Very nice people . Yup, that's Newlin's old car. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) You knew Bill? If a nicely restore six is going for $70-$80k there is a fair amount of expense that can be incurred and still be in the black money wise. |

Millerton NY is near Lime Rock Ct.
Pretty sure his car belongs to a family of known Porsche enthusiasts. |

EEK, $21,600 for this one on ebay, wow!
I understand that these can go for $70K+ if restored well, but man I'll just have to be happy if I can find a decent 2.0 for around $10K when I'm ready... |

I bet I would get the award for buying the worst condition six. Mine is pretty rough. And as I collect parts to restore it, they add up fast. But, my guess is still that the reserve on this one is between $25k - 30k. |

Paul ! Guys thanks for the warm welcome !
I feel okay about the purchase. Would have liked to have paid less but at least I got a car that is pretty clean. Other than a couple of wrinkles on the passenger side door and some rust on the back edge of the rear deck lid the body is real straight, no accidents and original paint , though very faded. Battery tray has a little surface rust in spots but solid. I like cars no one has ever seen before. My yellow #84 935 is like that. I think I am the fourth owner and between me and the previous owner it has been in our hands since 1988. Though there is nothing wrong with it, it is nice when you go to an event and five different people there didn't own your car before you did. |

I'm sure everyone would like to pay less, but if someone has the money, the opportunity to purchase a -6 doesn't come up often and it shows in what they are worth now when restored. The rising prices of all 914s I fear is eventually going to price me out of the market when I have the funds to make a purchase. It's awesome for everyone that already has one though. Congrats on your purchase, it sounds like you got a nice project! |

The seller of this one can't be too thrilled with a high bidder that has one feedback. It looks fishy too with that bidder upping his/her own high bid a couple of times. Reserve is met too. |

Yes from the records I can find Bill was the owner and builder. This was the second version of the car. Somewhere down the line the first version got totaled at the Grand Opening event at Buttonwillow with POC. I have the molds for the bodywork. It had been run by bill with a 4 now it has a 3.6 very fun car.. |

So, the bid is up to $27,500.00. I wonder if these bidders have noticed that the ad makes no reference to any documentation. The seller does not make any reference to title work. That's a lot of money to fork over without having clear title in hand.
Seller does however state, "Car sold as is With NO warranties or guaranties". |
