just took a set of 911 koni struts apart this afternoon
(removing the threaded cap that holds the damper to the strut is fun (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wacko.gif) )

anyway, on the first strut I opened up, there was a regular insert, like I expected
#2 was a bit of a surprise... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/huh.gif)

Looks OE to me, though the spring is unusual. Earlier cars used the tube as the housing, and the replacement units were the sealed inserts. The Cap'n
