I haven't own a radar detector since college, mainly because they annoy the hell out of me. But I guess the police in these parts are serious. This is second time I've been stopped in about 3 months. And my wife got a ticket last week?

so, what's hot these days? Radar/lasor combo's? lets hear'em (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smilie_pokal.gif)

Valentine (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wub.gif) The v-1 is the best one out there. spots cops from far, form sides, and from rear, and tells you where they are. I have 2 of them. Been through all the brands over the years.

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/finger.gif) the cops!!!!!!

Try one of those license plate covers that distort numbers.

with point and shoot radar these days, any radar detector is at a disadvantage...in the old days the radar guns emitted constant waves (a warm up period, so to speak) nowadays it is point and shoot radar...so the radar detector will indicate that you were just shot. It does in fact indicate when someone in your vicinity was just shot, the disadvantage of this is that most people will take these small indications as interference.

I also haven't had a detector in quite some time (more than 15 years), after getting two tickets with the damned thing (clocked one time, airplane the other). I know they've improved some, but so has police radar. I just drive the speed limit anyplace they're likely to be (city freeways).

Also, in the book Cannonball by Brock yates he states that contestants who maintained 80MPH - 90MPH on the freeway and used detectors seldom were pulled over. I've followed this advice and it seems to work. It seems that you don't "really" stand out in traffic until you are above 90MPH... or at least you have more time to react and hopefully the patrolman snags someone else first.

If you want to spend some money, get a K40 system, best on the market.
