I know it is early. But, public tickets will go on sale in October. So I wanted to throw it out there.
Anyone going in 2016? Next year is the 100th running of the race. We've never been. So I figured it was a good year to go. My oldest son and I are planning to drive the 914 up to the race. Any advice on where to stay? I have a reservation at La Quinta Inn & Suites Indianapolis AP Plainfield. It is by the airport, about 13 miles from the track. We will be driving up from Charlotte - either through Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, or through Kentucky, depending on whether others might want drive with us. Maybe a 914 caravan? Our plan is to drive up on Friday, have Saturday to go to the museum, etc., watch the race on Sunday, and drive home Monday. |

I may join for a Saturday get together but it's so far in the future, who knows what I'll be doing then. I end up working a lot of weekends, it seems. I do have a 2056 that I'm building that could feasibly be done and installed in time to drive my car but at the rate I'm going on it, I'm not sure. But, it would be fun to meet some Indy 914 owners anyway! Back in the late 80's-mid 90's, I worked at a commercial photo lab and we did all of the printing for IMS. During May, it wouldn't be unusual for me to work 80-90 hour weeks to get all the Speedway printing done. On race night, we had to work all night to get all the film processed (pre-digital) and contact sheets made and back to the track so they could get it ready for publication, etc. I even got to choose the shots used by IMS for the "milk shot," "winner's circle" and other things that IMS used. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the prints I did are still for sale in the museum gift shop. It was a lot of work and a lot of fun but totally burned me out on the 500.
After we went digital, I stopped doing as much daily print work for IMS but we did do quite a few larger format prints. I also ended up doing the Conseco/NASCAR signage for the Brickyard the one year Conseco fielded sponsored a car.... IMS had a huge Fan Fest display that we did all the signage for.....I now work for CNO Financial (formerly Conseco) doing digital printing of boring insurance policies/marketing materials. Anyway, sorry for the long babble....maybe I'll see some of you guys there at the track in May, with or without my 914. |
